How to make a field interesting ideas!

- Putting novel items in field, like a cone (though horses get bored of most things quite quickly)
- The various enrichment ideas mentioned here
- Setting up poles on any narrow stretches, or around water buckets etc
- Setting up scratch posts with a broom head or dandy brush

There’s lots of good ideas in the Paddock Paradise world, but the permanent stuff (like adding in small slopes, sandpits or different textures) costs a pretty penny.

Mine finds it most interesting when he has 2 fields to explore. One with the water, the other with good grass. It also has little dips in the terrain, areas of shade. The good one is more interesting than the one with water, but then the one with water is also next to Rigs, so there is a horse to pester over the fence.

He really loves to spend time in one, then hare round, through the gateway, to the other. I think it is the idea of choice he likes.

Mine play with toys when together but not so much when alone. Favourites include an old welly boot and a long rope snake dog toy. They each grab a bit and walk around together like a pair of giggling schoolboys.

I have a yard brush head fastended to a stanchion of the barn which all use to rub against, especially when moulting.

They also like playing king of the castle if there is anything raised to stand on.

I've also noticed that my guys like the option of multiple areas/fields. They nip between them quite happily.

Mine love this too! We also have wooded areas in two of our fields which they love…there is a lake at the bottom too with a track around it and they have been known to explore the track themselves when in there ?

Plant things. Hedges or areas of native shrubs. Particularly if your terrain is flat it can create a lot of interest if planned well. Obviously will need fencing off for several years so they can get going. Provides shelter, browse and movement if placed to interrupt sight lines.
