How to make a hot compress?

What have you found makes the best hot compress that stays hot the longest?

Never done a test myself, but would think that one of the shop bought ones would be best. However if I was making one, I'd probably go for quaker oats - my porridge stays hot for ages!

bran can still burn your fingers a long time after you make it with boiled water. Takes an age to be cool enough to put on!
