my new pony has got a bit of sweet itch and since we have had her i have done my best to keep it under control i am very proud with myself as her tail looked very sore and it now almost grown back nicely

However.... she has a couple of bald patches either side of her tail where she has obviously been rubbing before i got her they are not very big but the hair doesn't seem to be growing back is there anything i can do or put on it to help.

thanks in advance

At this time of year I wouldn't worry about it, she will soon be growing her winter coat and the patches will grow out.

Aloe vera Gel is good stuff, its for allsorts of skin problems, ive been putting it on my ponies scar, i thought it would stop it from getting sore but didn't know it would help hair growth aswell!! its less than a fiver, i boght it from local feed stores.

One of our TSR members uses Megatek on her shetland that has sweet itch and says it works well. She dilutes it and sprays it on (which means it is much cheaper as well).

We use 'wonder gel' and it works really well! Used on our horses rainscald when we first got him and helped the hair grow back really well.

green oils gel will help hair regrowth

My friend used green oils on her horse in the summer, and it caused a sort of burning to him when the sun was out. Might not want to put it on him during hot, sunny days if you do use it. But it might just have been that the horse was sensetive skinned... not sure

Not sure who makes it but I've used MSM cream on itchy scratchy shetland. Conditions skin and encourages regrowth. Suppost to be good for humans with skin conditions also.
