how to make jumps a tad more scarey?

was going to do grids either today or saturday...but its a tad boring really..
we have the safety system jumps from polyjumps so there BRIGHT but no really 'omg thats a scarey fence', is there anything you use on fences, thats safe but adds a bit off 'OMG whats that' to a horse?
not trying to scare my horse to death, just wanted to make stuff a little more intresting... i never tried anything like this before so thought its worth a try and see if she is fased by anything .... i was thinking tinsel? any other ideas? thanks :) :rolleyes:
 
you can hang bright coloured towels from the poles but not on a windy day! you can hang stars (card and tin foil) from the poles. you can lay towels or tarpaulin under the fence to create a "ditch" or "water tray".

Don't see why you couldn't even get some cardboard boxes from local supermarket (ie free veg boxes etc) and paint them to make fillers? not very good on a wet surface or if it's raining!
 
tinsel around wings is good :) Try different shaped fences, hogsback fences will really get her to look and think, whilst encouraging a good shape the the same time :)
 
Yarp, pretty much an upright fence (if you can picture this, hard to explain) with poles either side a bit lower than the middle pole. So kind of like a double sided ascending oxer. You can jump it both ways :)

Am I making any sense at all? Somebody help me out here, I'm struggling to explain :p

Coats work well over a fence (will often see it in a warm up ring :p), as well as cones (borrowed from road works) and road signs too (wooden ones though)

Plastic bags with a bit of sand in bottom and hung from the fence :)

Never really seen the point of over the top coloured fences as horses are particially colour blind.... I think they are more for the riders eye as horses don't see bright colours as we do... It's the shapes that are scary scary :p make some fillers with lots of sharp edged shapes etc from planks of wood and just rest them against cones or something.

Oh my.... just looked out the window :( damn you weather!! lol

They do see colour but it's alot duller than how we see it... how they know this I do not know lol

only_me - I hope [coats over a fence] is not at affiliated competitions?
