how to post a saddle?

On my inspired clear out of all un-needed horsey stuff I've put 2 saddles on ebay, both have bids on so will be sold but that leaves me with the problem of how best to post them - any ideas on best types of packaging to use??

Neither are particularly expensive (one is synthetic and the other an old leather one, both about 6kg) but I do have a pet hate of badly packaged items arriving at my door. Only saddle I've ever brought via the internet arrived in a walkers crisps box wrapped in tescos carrier bags!:confused:

what do you use, do you get a proper packing box or recycle something from the local supermarket?:o
 
Just get a couple of sturdy cardboard boxes from the local supermarket & use bubble wrap if you have it or screwed up newspaper to stop any movement in the box.

You will find that if you use a courier rather than Royal Mail it will be considerably cheaper to post. Agreed with the above post. I've sold a number of saddles on Ebay (clearing out the collection... ahem), as long as you can find a cardboard box big enough and some bubble wrap, you're well away. I tend to hack at the box anyway and use strong tape to fit it around the saddle, just makes them that bit smaller!

I recently sold mine and had arranged a courier through Parcel2go but was let down and they didn't turn up so I took it to the post office who send it 24 hour express delivery, fully insured for only £4 more than the courier wanted.
 
Having sent a few saddles places now I would send it via Parcelforce who are cheap and efficient! Supermarket or other large department store box, VERY STRONG brown tape and bubble wrap.
 
thanks folks, supermarket box hunt it is ... or i might even get lucky and turn one up in my shed whilst I'm carry on my clear out. Think it's going to have to be post office delivery anyway as I can't take it to work to get a courier to pick up.

It's so very sad but I'm quite excited at the prospect of having the saddles out of the way and some space back again, although hmmm maybe if I've sold all 3 I can justify buying a dressage saddle for the boy - that saddle rack will look kind of empty without any occupants :D
