How to prevent dog getting cold at night?

Our lurcher bitch previously slept in her crate but as we are selling the house at the moment, we thought it would be a bit too much to keep putting the crate up and down when we had viewers so we took it down and she now has a large plastic dog bed with a king size duvet, a pillow and some blankets.

I always try and tuck her in at night although sometimes she chooses to sleep downstairs for a bit before coming up to her bed or she’ll move around in the night and knock the covers off.

She does seem to feel the cold and is a proper wee heat seeker which results in her either sneaking into bed with us (she’s very stealthy!) or waking me up during her attempts to sneak in.

She has a wee pullover fleece but sometimes gets tangled in it so I’d never want to leave her sleeping in it.

Would there be other, better dog coats, doggy PJ’s that might be better? I’ve also spotted some furry tunnel beds but I suspect she’d be a bit too dim to use that – she can’t seem to work out or doesn’t want to try getting back under her covers again (but is very proficient at getting under our bed covers!!)

Any suggestions welcome as I’d love a night of unbroken sleep!
 
My Dalmatian is a heat seeker too and she very often hogs the radiators! her bed is in front of the lounge radiator and she loves it. when the heating goes off though she curls up in the corner of the sofa. Maybe you could put your dogs bed by a radiator? :)
 
It's already right next to the cupboard with the boiler in it and while the heating isn't on all night, the boiler is so there is still some heat coming from it but obviously not enough for her!
 
:D bless her. If she was happy and settled in her crate then i would be tempted to leave it up, even with house viewers coming round. At least you will get some sleep and she will settle down again :)
 
Our little Italian Greyhound wears her PJ's at night. knitted jersey which she loves. I'd be inclined to use the fleece jersey.
 
I'm an Equafleece fan.

Little dog has his fleecey huggy thing on and seems happy enough in it. Black & White bitch always, without fail, seems to get herself tangled up in every flippin thing I put on her, contrary hound!

Just a thought........... but one solution might be to buy on of those large metal dog crates (OK so I know they're not cheap) and put her bed in that, and THEN cover the crate up with blankets/duvet etc??? That way she'd have her own hidey hole and feel protected (which would help her to settle if you're moving as she'll feel that the crate is already "her" space), plus she'd be kept nice and warm without you worrying whether she's getting tangled up in anything.

I'm thinking about doing this for my two.......... Black & White bitch is old and thus feeling the cold, and Little Dog misses his nice warm Rayburn at night (spoken for already by the cat, who rules the roost).

I did this with our dally when we first got her, really helped her to settle. she now always heads in there if shes feeling upset or nervous of something.

I'd google equafleece and see what you think. They are fab. Maybe a full leg option would stop the tangling? My boy has the tankie version and that stays put really well?
 
Thanks for the suggestions - can put the crate back up if required but going to try her with some fleecy PJ's in the hope that these help!
 
Another vote for equafleece My spaniel gets dressed for bed every night. Sleeps next to the radiator AND has a blanket put over her! It's stopped her creeping into our bed at 1am though so a result!
 
The link lady25 provided is exactly the same type worn by my friends Greyhound, their heating goes off over night so she was getting cold so they bought one of those PJs and she is fine. When she comes and stays with me they bring them but she dosnt wear them because my woodburner runs the radiators and she is toasty all night

Sorry I just had visions of me trying to cram a lurcher sized heating pad into our microwave - I think I'd have to sit on the door to close it :P

Our skinny lurcher has a canine thermatex and sleeps in that. The other other bigger hairier lurcher seems to generate his own heat and isn't really bothered - he can generally be found flat on his back with legs akimbo regardless of the temperature :D
 
My collie insists on sleeping on the floor under my bed, won't use her nice comfy, warm, bed at night but by the morning she feels cold. She is long coated but is now 10 1/2 and has very bad arthritis in her hips so getting cold isn't good. My mom knitted her a jumper that covers her hips well and this keeps her warm overnight.
