My horse has started to loose the mane near the bottom of her neck, I think it is where the neck of her rug rubs her. Is there anyway I can prevent this? She had it last year too and it took all summer to grow it back again! Thankyou x

As above, mane often falls out when thy are too hot, probably why its falling out now as I imagine she's had that rug on all winter?! otherwise many and tail conditioner/ baby oil on mane and inside of rug. Otherwise a rug with no seem and nylon type lining so its slippy (not cotton) or a lycra headless neck hood. less is more though a standard neck rug is cheaper and better!

If there was a catch all answer to this the inventor would make a million! Manes rub out on rugs and nothing is really 100%. Not to say the answers already given are not good ones; but nothing is going to work all the time. Personally we use Bossy bibs and their mane saver - but have still lost some. Although my daughter's habit of grabbing a handful at the base of the breastplate probably doesn't help!

Wash her mane weekly, and don't let her neck get too hot!! Manes fall out due to heat opening up the pores and then the friction rubs the hair out. My horses will winter in a polar fleece neck rug, and during wet weather they will have an no fill neck added (even when clipped!). I'd suggest getting the neck part off her neck at any opportunity, if it's not raining then leave her in the rug :)

You can try no neck cover or even one of the neck bibs by companys like Bossy. To be honest if a horse wears a rug you will get some mane loss & probably rub marks on the chest, it's something that always happens..
