I had the vet out this morning just to check a hind leg issue that I thought he had, more piece of mind for me really.
Anyway the vet was more than happy and said he would gladly pass him for a 5 stage vetting if I was looking to purchase which I'm not cos I already own him- wally !!! as his legs are nice and correct along with his movement.

If he was to be really picky he would like to see him with more muscle on his hind quadrants to match his really strong shoulders, Has anyone got any idea' s how to do this, I school him 3-4 times a week and hack out light permitting 3-4 times a week, I have started trotting at a nice strady pace up any hills I can find , the main one being a steady incline of about 1 mile which he eats up.
When I bought him about 6 months ago he was a overweight unfit field potato, his weight is nicely dropping and his fitness has vastly improved.

Just looking for any other ideas really.

Thanks in advance

You could do strapping on his quarters and jumping should build some muscle. You are doing the correct thing on your hacks,if he is working correctly over his back he should start to muscle up but it takes time.

I prefer to walk up hills TBH. I think this way they really use their hind quaters. Make sure they are not rushing in walk though and try and keep him in a slight out line. This way he cant pull him self up the hills using his "really strong shoulders".

Thanks
Stacieandjed TBH He puts himself in an outline when ever we hack out , you would think he's at a blooming show, don't get me wrong he does stretch his neck out but we tend to hack out in an outline much to the amusement of my friends and instructer. I will try alternating between walk and trot up the hills.

Jumpthemoon, I will try raised poles thank you, he will pop a jump but doesn't seem to enjoy it as much as schooling, if he was a human, he'd probably be called a swot!
