How to sell a horse

Just that really. I have a nice 10yo horse. It's sound, in good health and reasonably fit. Not a world beater but would make someone a nice all rounder with a bit of fitness work. My life is taken up now with caring duties and other obligations, and I'm struggling to give the horse the time it deserves, hence the feeling that I should re-home to someone who can give it a proper job to do.

So - how do you sell a horse? Advertise on one of the on-line sites, use a dealer (a very good one nearby), an ad on Facebook, some other method? The only other time I have sold a horse, someone made me a very good offer for it and I let it go to a much more interesting home and life than I was giving it, so I'm a bit clueless to be honest. All advice welcome. Thanks.

Agree. Try word of mouth first. I found great homes for my project horses through my barefoot trimmer and through an instructor. You can also advertise later if not successful.

Good idea. I'm not in a hurry: just want a good home for this lovely horse. It deserves a better life than I'm able to give it just now, sadly.
 
I am selling two to cut right down on horses and it’s stressing me out!!

I was offered 10% less on one and wanted to buy horse travel it for 2 hours have it vetted by own vet and if failed then it would come home for a refund. I could perhaps deal with 10% less but not the risk of travel and something happening to it.

I find a good selling livery worked for me.They keep you up to date,you can meet any would be buyers and veto any you don't like.Your horse sounds what a lot off people are looking for.As an ex carer can I say "Take Care".Find time for yourself as well.It is very important.

This - I have sold 2 horses through sales livery and they both went to great homes. It wasn’t the important for me, but I probably got at least the same amount of money as the sales livery had a really good reputation for matching horses and people, so the buyers were prepared to pay!
 
I’ve got one on sales livery at the moment. Not a cheap option but it saves having to deal with the idiotic phone calls. Had lots of offers from people who haven’t even come to see him. He’s had 4 viewings so far of which 3 were idiots and that’s through horsequest. I’m quite particular about where he goes. This is the first horse I’ve ever sold and it’s a lot harder than I thought.
