My mare gets carried away when we canter in company and thinks she's a racehorse. I feel that I have little control and resort to pulling on the reins too much. I would like some advice on how to use your seat and other aids to slow down and gain some control. If you could explain what you do and if there's an order to it please. I hope this makes sense!

Swap with me??? I am a speed merchant, I find fizzy horses a lot easier to deal with than slow horses! sorry not v useful but I am sure there are lots ppp, on here wh0 can help :)

Shifting your body weight backwards is a cue to slow down. I imagine though that schooling, schooling, schooling will help, especially concentrating on clean and frequent transitions. When your mare realises that she doesn't know what's going to come next and when, she should be listening to you.

Some horses though are just like that in canter (like all the ponies at our local hacking centre) and the best thing to do is grab a bit of mane, grin and enjoy the ride! lol.
