Well basically, my new youngster was very badly kept and he was in his own pee and muck 24/7 and we've noticed he has foot rot, is there any way to sort it out? Thanks everyone :)

Firstly please call vet then put him somewhere clean and dry. Clean affected areas with diluted hibiscrub rinse. Cleantrax any fungal infections and keep as clean and as dry as possible, washing only in clean water and hibiscrub solution as needed. You may find Nizoral shampoo solution useful. Also make sure he has a diet very low in sugar and hi in fibre. Use fats like linseed if you need weight gain. I imagine worms may be an issue. Vet will be able to advise further I am sure but it needs looking at properly.

Yeah we are worming him at the moment and because hes really skinny the vet said just keep him on haylage but then eventually move him onto grass for half an hour then get longer each day. They didn't really give me any info about the foot rot :/ but there is one foot he doesn't like being picked up

If he has one foot he does not want to lift, this may be because he does not want to put all his weight on the other one.
You can get some Fast Fibre from the feed shop, feed this as a mash to provide vitamins and minerals. Instructions are on the bag.

If it is actual foot rot, then get the farrier to trim back any necrotic tissue and get some blue antibiotic speay from the vet. I would do this as a matter of urgency tbh.

For now, until the feet heal, haylage would not be my first option as anything high in sugars and acid will encourage fungus and bacteria.

Can you swap to hay until he gets better?

May I suggest alfalfa pellets and chaff as high in essential nutrients, protein and calcium and add apple cider vinegar to the feed to help with potassium levels. It is not just meds, it is diet too that will help this youngster make a full recovery :)

Thanks everyone, I've been washing all his feet out with an anti bacterial scrub and I have some iodine spray, would that work? Il also call the farrier!

No. The best defence for fungal infection in feet is canestan. Yes, the very one for vaginal thrush. It works very well. Mix it with antibacterial cream and use a blunt syringe to target specific areas. Courtesy of Pete Ramey.

I'd get the farrier to have a look. Daughters came with thrush, among other things, but by the time the farrier had trimmed the overgrown foot away it wasn't that bad, & cleared up quickly in a dry field. If yours is in also make sure the bed is as dry as possible.
