How do you stop a jumping pony, jumping out of his field? He's got company (the same ponies he's always had in his field), he isn't cold but doesn't have much grass. But there isn't much grass in any of the fields he's jumping into.

He's only out during the day and comes in at 7pm, as soon as I can get to the yard.

He clears the fences by a mile. We're on livery so can't change the fencing.

So far he has only jumped into other fields (sometimes empty fields) but I'm worried he'll jump onto the farm track and wander onto the road :(

Any ideas?

got the same trouble with my lad! Fortunatly he has never jumped off what he considers his ground....he just leans on the fences
If I could, I would see if you could run a line of electric about 6ft on the inside of the fences, its about the only thing thats ever stopped my lad....
too close to bounce, and too far for most to jump!

My filly does this and the only thing that stops her is having the electric on. Which is slightly bonkers because she always leaves the fencing untouched anyway! No advice accept I doubt your horse would wonder off on his own as they are herd animals and tend to stick together.

Years ago I had a pony that always jumped out of fields. An old chap told me to put a sheet of leather on his headcollar from browband to nose band so it stuck out to the sides. It worked like blinkers in reverse so he could see sideways and not forwards. He never jumped out with it on as it stopped him seeing to line himself up for the jump.

Thanks for all the ideas. I'll give anything a go. He's jumping from a field with all his usual friends in to empty fields and sometimes fields with other ponies/horses in so I don't get it at all.

I'm going to try to get someone to bring him in after just a few hours of being out and see if that will work first, although I turned him out at 10.30 today and went back at 2pm and he'd jumped into an empty field so maybe the leather trick will work.

Thanks again.
