Hi everyone has anyone had any experience of horses bolting their feed. My amre is getting worse since new horses have joined the yard and she has one next to her but it always been not great at feeding time. When she gets it she sticks her nose in it and takes no shovels as much in her mouth as possibe. Real worried she will choke.
Have thought about feeding her in the field in the morning as she is on her own instead of feeding her at night.
Does anyone just feed in the morning at least this way if I feed in the field she is on her own and hopefully slow down.
Splitting feeds but she still tried to get as much into her mouth as possible.

Any ideas??

large rock or stone in the feed so they have to move it around to get the feed

She already has chaff in her feed to try and stop her eating so quickly. Someone at the yard suggested this but I am worried she would try and eat that you should see how wide she can open her mouth. Might need to try a boulder!

A friends horse did this and ended up choking, now she feeds the feed really sloppy, loads of water so the food is almost swimming, it has stopped her bolting and choking
