He's about six months old (was a feral).

Fit and healthy. Vet visit today to check there was no reason for the wee-ing and there's not. He's just a !&*"Cat.

D2 suggested Feliway. I'm happy to try anything as I'm running out of dog beds. And the smell, whilst not super strong, is not the home aroma I was aiming for...

I had hoped that being snipped would do the job. It hasn't.

Eek.

If there is another cat in the house it’s likely to be a territory issue rather than a medical one but the problem with territory is it can cause stress cystitis in cats and they pee all the more. Feliway or valerian root can be good for calming things down. Getting rid of the smell can be more problematic but bicarbonate of soda or white vinegar neutralises the odour.

Oh what joy!

Thank you folks.

The other cat is his litter mate by another couple, another ex-feral, and he's fine and uses the litter tray like a civilised wee pusscat.

Vet suggested a second litter tray so will get one tomorrow, and will get the Feliway, as well as white vinegar.

None of our other male cats have been an issue, just this one. Ah well. Good job he's as cute as buttons. Currently curled up on my lap purring like there's no tomorrow, and making my arms stretch so I can use the laptop.

feliway and urinary stress food definitely help mine who is like this.

But if I have the audacity to leave him overnight (even if someone is feeding him) he reverts to peeing on stuff. His current favourite is the sofa which is the worst place since it can’t go through the wash like everything else ?

Its strange how some cats do this but others dont.
The ferals i’ve had/got that did this were in ‘competition’ for their own bed. The last feral to turn up here immediately started sleeping with the dogs in their beds, with the dogs in them! The dogs were not too pleased! The cat would then occasionally pee in the dogs beds. To ‘claim’ them and put the dogs off, i reasoned.
As soon as i gave his lordship a sheepskin large bed area for him to stretch on in delight, i.e the sofa!…i got a sofa for a cat!… the peeing of the dogs beds stopped.
He has access 24/7 to a cat door to go out or in as he pleases.

Does your boy not like his current bed for any reason? Is it too small or too low that he’s at ground level? I find cats love either boxes hidden away to sleep in, or elevated areas above all other animals (especially dogs).

The female feral would pee on our bed! She didnt want us using HER bed! ?

When we had a boy cat that tended to pee on stuff he shouldn’t we added litter trays to every room and closed bedroom doors so he had no access, our bed was a favourite if he was frightened, to be fair he only did it if we had visitors (he was scared of people). A feliway was recommended. We just worked more on damage limitation than completely solved the issue.

My ex-feral male cat pees on stuff too. Washing basket with clothes in is the most annoying but more often it’s the kitchen basin or shower so it’s easier to clean up. I just have to make sure his litter tray is clean. It’s especially annoying when the cat flap is open but he chooses to pee inside before he goes out.

If he keeps peeing at around the same area, and if it's possible, you could try covering the area with aluminium foil. First of all, some cats dislike even walking on it (but not all), secondly, if he pees on the aluminium foil, parts of the pee will usually splash off the foil and back up on him, which cats don't like.
