how to stop her licking it?

Hi my husky has a bit on her leg which she's biting. Been to the vet twice got cream but she keeps licking it! Tried 2 muzzles to which she got off, smarty pants that she is! I dont want t stick a huge cone collar thing on her as she would cause mayhem in the house going mad! Is there anything else I can do? x
 
Apart from a cone, not much :o
TBH I would stick it out, if you don't break the cycle at this stage she could get obsessive about it and make it much worse. If you catch her doing it make a sharp noise and try to distract her with food or a toy etc.
You could try a bandage treated with an anti-chew spray or something also but she would probably just get it off.
What is she fed on? Is it a hot spot, would you say?
 
She's fed raw :-) with veg for fun! (Severe tummy troubles) vet said something jag'd her and gave 2 jabs plus fuciderm gel. She chews vet wrap off (sorry tt and cola for dipping into your first aid stuff!) she takes muzzles off and then chews the straps! One smart cookie I think :-)
 
Indeed! My fella used to worry himself something shocking. You can also try pure aloe vera or Sudocrem, my vet gave me Fuciderm but told me to feed the dog or take him out for a big walk after application to stop him eating it as it is strong stuff.
 
On a similar vein to dobiegirls suggestion, when one of mine had a wound on her leg she kept licking, it was suggested I put vet wrap bandage on the other leg, so that one got her attention. It did work, not sure if that just means I had a thick dog!
 
I sympathise re the buster collar, but it's the future! Fuciderm cream from the vet will stop the irritation.

I had two in collars at Christmas: one had turned his bits into raisins (OCD dog!) and the other lacerated his paw.

You can also get a soft cushion collar, not sure if that's as effective as the traditional buster collar.
 
Just a thought, lots of dog with lick granulomas on their hind legs are due to blocked analglands, they attack the leg because to relieve themselves..... I take it you know the cause of the licking.. its very annoying if they become obsessive lickers... wishing your doggie better soon xx
 
It is possible that your husky may have zinc deficiency. As a breed they are prone to this. A couple of mine have it and the symptoms they display are quite different. With one of them she would literally rip her hair out and then bite at the skin all over her back. She had all sorts of tests done and we tried many different things. The only thing that stopped her was a buster collar. Don't assume that yours won't take to wearing one. They usually adapt pretty quickly. If it's just a hotspot and the cycle needs breaking it's the only thing that will work. Bandages and creams on a dog are a waste of time I have always found.

Our other one only gets some lesions round his nose and it's easily controlled with supplementation. He only needs it in winter. With our the girl mentioned above we seem to have solved the issue with a fish based diet. It seems that she absorbs zinc more easily from fish and as the breed evolved on a fish based diet it makes sense. She does still get supplementation as well such is the severity.

You can supplement zinc quite easily in mild cases with liver, but for anything other than this you need a supplement. We used to use zincaderm but that was discontinued. We now use Nutrazinc. A tub lasts months and months. With any husky and skin issues zinc is definately worth a try as it is really common. I know lots of husky people and most have at least one (some several) that has ZRD, especially in winter.
 
PS Re tummy troubles that's also very common in the breed. They don't need much food but what they do eat needs to be good. We use fish4dogs salmon and raw meat plus bones once week. Most of the big mushing kennels in Alaska etc feed a mixture like this as well. It's easier to take kibble to rallies.
 
this happened my boy, but lampsahde collar was only way to go. it was fine in a week to 10 days. i know they hate it.
 
After Diesel was neutered we put on him the cone of shame and he just stood in the middle of the room and wouldnt move. He wouldnt sit, wouldnt move for treats he was just plain terrified so we took it off him and he never licked the site which was lucky. If he had we would have had no alternative but put it back on him, Ive had quite a few dogs wear them but never got that reaction before.
