This happened today on hack whilst he was napping and I was trying to turn him back. I know we obviously need to work on the napping problem and I don't want to change him from a snaffle but if I remember rightly can you get snaffles with bars on side instead of rings??

My boy does this with his waterford, a simple pair of rubber biscuits each side solved it for me! Cheap solution as well!

Fulmer or full cheek (fulmers have a loose ring, full cheek is fixed) both have the side bars which I feel would be beneficial with your current napping issues.

The free option is to not give the outside rein away. You cant pull the bit through the horses mouth if you#re still hanging on to the other side.

Otherwise, use a full cheek snaffle.

Just what I was going to say! A snaffle will never go through a horses mouth if the outside rein is as it should be. Steering is not about pulling on one rein or the other.

My dentist suggested one of those racing bits that have the ring through and go behind the chin, as they're hard (or impossible im not sure?!) to pull through.

I wouldn't use a full cheek snaffle as seen them end up inside horses mouths several times.

Having ridden a few spinny nappers i think it's way past not giving the outside rein away!! The last thing you want to do with something trying to avoid turning or going forwards is to keep hold of one rein whilst pulling it round with the other... it will just go backwards or most likely up
