My spaniel has grazed his dew claw pad, nothing bad but he has now licked it raw. I have tried covering it with vet wrap but he just chews it off. Is there any thing I can do?

I use the greyhounds walking muzzle instead of a cone. I have even used it on the GSD pup (which has had it on previously to get used to wearing a muzzle in case of emergencies). It helps me know which cupboard the muzzle lives in.

That was my next step....I just like my legs on there current un bruised state....he has no spatial awareness!

You can get soft ones which are far better for dog and owner. I got mine from the vet but they could be available on line perhaps?

We have padded ring, which goes round the neck, is more comfortable for the dog and humans and considerably more robust.
I once collected a dog from the vet's surgery, complete with the usual style of collar and by the time she had finished catching it on everything in her way, including the car bumper, the collar was in such a state of disrepair that I had to go back into the surgery and ask for a replacement.

I cant offer any additional advice over what has already been suggested, but I do sympathise, one of our labs has had multiple claw injuries over the last two years but if we put a sock on him and tell him to leave he doesn't bother with it at all. It must be awful to deal with a dog who is making his condition worse as he tries to fix himself. Hope he's felling better soon.

They are called "Buster Collars" and available from most pet shops or Amazon https://www.google.com/search?q=bus...0j69i57j0l4.5667j0j8&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

Thanks for everyone's replies...he has had an inflatable buster collar on all day, and has still managed to lick the wound....distraction seemsto work best with him. I will try to cover the wound and then distract him all day tomorrow!!

Cone of shame time, the inflatable collars don't work for the lower limbs on most dogs.

Plus..check for pain and signs of infection..they have a nasty habit of licking for a reason.

Wound gard spray can also work if its a slight wound and an easily deterred dog...
