Have been practising with my 2 year old for his show and he has started grabbing his lead rope and pulling it all the time it is quite funny but don't think it will impress the judges lol Any ideas how i can stop him fro doing it?

Aw, my 20yr old Newfie does that, mainly when I first catch him. Maybe just try to move the rope out of the way before he grabs it? And a sharp "no."? Good luck!

He's obviously a bit of a chancer!

My youngsters chew at ropes whenever they get a chance, but have learnt not to do it when i'm within range!

It all depends whether he's a 'snatcher' or just a casual 'lift-and-chew'.

Try a very sharp downward tug on lead rope, coupled with a bellowed 'oi' in his ear is effective for both types.

If he's a snatcher then strategically holding something heavy-ish (like a dandy brush or something) in the same hand as rope and making sure the end of it is miraculously in his 'line of attack' when he goes to snatch rope also effective.

Then you can go one of 2 roads a) couple it with an oi, so he knows you had something to do with it or b) couple it with an 'oh, silly pony, what did you bump your chin on my brush for, pooooor pony'. Personally I'd go for 'a', but its quite entertaining watching them trying to work out what just happened if you react with 'b'!!

Either that or poke him in the shoulder with the end of your show cane together with an 'oi' and a tug of the rope.

Or try putting a stallion chain on the end of your lead rope, and when he goes to grap rope just give it a flick aiming for his chin, again with the 'oi'.

If he's a typical cheeky welsh then he'll quickly catch on.
