Hi

Does anyone have any good ideas on how to stop young horses chewing turnout boots in the paddock. Happy to wear them but intent on nibbling them when no one looking. I know it is a baby thing but would like to stop him, do you reckon cribstop or something similar would be ok to put on boots?

if it was just the strap i would have said just wrap the boots in duct/gaffa tape! but sorry cant really help with the body of the boot

Cribstop would work if the horse took any notice of it, some of my horses look upon it merely as added flavouring

Best way to stop chewing in my opinion? Don't put them on?

They are obviously on for a reason so that solution is null and void.

Thank you for your suggestions esp the last one , the 3 year old wears boots due to constantly knocking his legs so prevention is better than having him damaged. Will try the cribstop/No bite.

I'm pretty sure Nelson11 knows what she is doing putting boots on her youngster!

With regards to stopping, no idea, you could try bitter apple spray.

Look on the bright side at least while he is nibbling his boots he isn't hoolying around the field

I had an ice boot on my horse the other day and when I looked he had his foot up on the steps on the yard and was chewing the top of it!! I wouldn't mind but he's 7!!
He's ruined the boot, now all the stuff leaks out when it warms up. He's also chewed his magnet stable wraps.

I used to have to spray everything with No Bite when he was younger, even other people's horses rugs at one point!! It did work, just make sure you wash your hands after touching it, it does taste evil!

naked is best! they will learn to be sensible! altho i do have a 4 year old that is a TMPS and bute addict!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My dressage horse pulled every boot/bandage off his front legs and I tried everything, eventually I tried covering them in cribox them covering them in chilli powder which stuck to the cribox, he never damaged a boot/bandage again!

Nobody was inferring that she didn't, merely saying, in response to the question, that if the horse didn't wear boots he couldn't chew them.
