Hi all- I have a 20 year old appendix QH. He has had a fairly easy winter and forgot how to do some moves but the one that he realyl can't seem to get again is to stretch his head down( I do dressage and pleasure so this is a must!). I don't know if he is just stiff( since he collects beautifly). Does anyone have any tips on hos to either loosen him up or how to teach him to drop his head when on a loose rein? Any help would be great!

I am not entirely sure on how to get them to do it but when I bought my boy I found that if I scratch his neck or give it a tiny pat he immediatly stretches down. In a dressage test (we only do prelim) in free walk I just give him a very discreet scratch with one finger and he stretches! I'm sorry that I can't tell you how to get him to do that but it is great having such an easy trigger to use to get the stretch. I think for my boy food would do the trick and automatic pat and stretch after a work out session

id definately get the physio out, as at his age and the fact that he has had time off, he needs to be checked over before being brought back into work again.
