How to suggest *kindly* to someone they are doing something wrong.

I have finally found a fab sharer, she loves Ed and is fab to be around - so has taken him on a few days a week.

Now, the only problem...

She is old school, heave-it-up-til-they-cant-breathe crazy girth woman. Poor Ed looked like he was going to explode when she did it.

He has girthing issues anyway and I tend to do it quietly and gently to help, it gets done up tight but not over tight - and gradually!

How can I say nicely, please, please dont oik his girth like that?

I would say that I had forgotten to mention that he is sensitive with his girth and then explain how you would like it done and then apologise that you hadnt mentioned it sooner.

Why not just say something along the lines of:

"Just realised that I forgot to tell you that Ed has girthing issues. I've found the best way to deal with it is to do it up a hole at a time and I never have it tighter than on X holes both sides. I'd be really grateful if you could do it the same way."

Have you ever watched Lee Evans live? He does this thing about when you start walking the wrong way down a street but don't want to just turn around 'cos you'll look like a mental.. Cue a big palm slap and 'Oh My Gosh. I FORGOT something..' Cracks me up everytime!

I agree with all of the above but just thought I'd point out that your horse coping with your friends' robust girthing technique (and I agree it needs correction as outlined above) is testament to you doing a great job getting him over that issue! Give yourself a pat on the back

Ditto the above and maybe also start by saying how you think she is doing a great job with your horse and how you hope she is enjoying riding him (which might allow her to bring up any questions, problems, etc).

fab id just say i normally have the girth on this hole and she should be able to tell as it will be the most worn hole and easy to go into.

Yeah she's great, I'm made up with her, she's got a lot of experience but is a little rusty, but kind and straightforward. Just the kind of lady Ed will love

How about smacking her straight betweeen the eyes knocking her to the floor, stand over her and say if she ever ever does
the girth up like that again you will strangle her with it, then act all weird and offer her a cup of tea.

Orrrrrrrrrrr, just politely mention that he is a bit sensitive on girthing and which holes he normally has it.
