Can anyone help please??

I really need to know how much a normandy cob x 15.1/2hh (ish!) could carry but she's crossed with something quite light (maybe with a bit of arab in her!!), I don't have a photo

If her eyes buldge and her knees shake, then it's too heavy! How heavy are you wanting her to take. If she is half cob then probably up to atleat 13/14 stone, but maybe more or less depending on how araby she is.

lol!!!

not sure on weight we would like her to carry, but it was like i was nothing on her and i'm not exactly light!!

sh'e not very araby at all....very cobby, has a huge bum, big chest and stocky legs!! but when hs emoves around the field she goes all arab like (reason we think she has arab in her, but tbh she could be crossed with ANYTHING!!)

There is an old formula that people still use to assess how much a horse can carry:

Take horses weight in lbs and divide by six then divide by 14. The result is the maximum weight in STONES that the horse can carry.

The crucial formula is that the rider and tack should'nt exceed 20 pre cent of the horse's weight. A horse age less than 5 should never carry a heavy weight, an ex brood mare can't carry much weight as her ligaments are lengthened by pregnancy-the more foals she's had the less strong her back will be. Bone's measured below the knee with a tape messure-a pony might have eight inches, a TB eight or nine and a cob nine, 10 or even more. Bone densitity's also important; Arabs have denser bones than other breeds and can carry proportionally more. Conformation, particularly the back, a horse with a dipped or very long back will be weaker than he seems. A short back and strong hindquarters make weight easier to carry.

Have you being reading horse magazine by any chance? Either that or you have special powers as that is a word for word repeat of what i just read!!
