Horsey constantly wants to rub his nose when we are riding ,Is it because of midges etc.or becaue of pollen ? He also has started to toss his head a bit as well, so am wondering if a fly fringe for him to wear while riding would be of any help. Thoughts or any advice greatly appreciated.

It could be inflammation of the nose - vet term being 'allergic rhinitis', to anything he is allergic to/encounters.
One of mine is allergic to oilseed rape pollen, and rubs her nostrils, snorts, and curls her lip up.
Maybe start off trying midge repellent though - to eliminate that as a cause - I use 'Autan' human stuff for my girls' ears; it seems to work for a long time, and doesn't leave much residue.
If that doesn't stop the behaviours, try either a nose net (you can buy them to fit onto the noseband of your bridle) or a nasal spray (I find spraying two squirts of Beconase into each nostril morning and evening effective at relieving my girl's hayfever).
Just a note about safety - if you are using any fly fringe/mask when riding - do make sure your horse can see properly with it on, especially if you are anywhere near traffic.

my horse is allergic to pollen, dust, mould, grass, hay etc... is he struggling to breathe at all or getting a frequent runny nose? because the yes, probably a pollen allergy. but the nose rubbing and head tossing sounds like he might be developing into a head shaker. there isnt much to cure it but you can help the horse by putting it in a fly bonnet...ive found they help lots of horses so they cant see the bright colours which may trigger it. good luck!

It might also be worth having teeth checked, bridle checked to ensure the bit isn't too high, or the browband too tight (these two things can trigger head tossing), and back and saddle fit, too.

We have a head shaker, but this is due to Pollen. We use a nose net by equilibrium, this is attached on the nose band of your bridle. We have tried allsorts, even a drug from the vet. You just have to ride them through it. But i sympathise with you it is not easy.
