How to tell my veterinary practice

Dont say who you dont want and simply ask for who you do (if they might not be on that day then ask who is in then select from those). I always ask for two set vets as they are best with horses, then there's a 3rd favourite if they arent around.

As a small animal VN theres been quite a few times when clients have requested any vet except X - its no big deal, we accomodate the client and there are no hard feelings as we are hardly going to run to X and tell them

I use a small practice and they had one girl I didn't like for a while but I've used them for 16 years, and my main vet is the owners, so i just told him I'd rather not use the certain person! luckily she got pregnant quite soon after joining and has now decided to leave and they've replaced her with a great vet! so I'm happy to use any of the 4 that work there

There were two vets at my old practice that misdiagnosed my horse two years running which ultimately led to the loss of my horse. Had they listen to my findings they would or should have given a once over and checked feet instead of just the breathing and said *ventapulmin*

They were horrid at the end after my horse had gone and did not care about me it was all about money money money and * look what we bought * a new scanner machine etc Yes we see courtesy of our huge vet bills and their over priced cost, and uninterested vets when we ask a ?

So I dumped them and went back to my old practice and now really happy, kind vets, genuinely caring vets.

Instead of vets caring only about being the biggest in the area, and most client bedside manner gone.

I do wonder how many of these un happy people here used these vets as here they have many unhappy customers

You can always request a certain vet when making an appointment.
You dont have to give a reason.

Lots of people prefer a certain vet and its good when a vet knows a horse and owner well.

Obviously in an emergency and out of hours call you wouldnt get a choice.

I fell out with a vet a year ago for various reasons. I wrote him a stinking letter telling him exactly how i felt about his behaviour and lack of professionalism and then i changed vets.
I wouldnt even have trusted him if my horse was desperate so i knew i had to change vets. I have total faith in my new vet.

I believe it is also a similar situation in human medicine: I have it on good authority that many of the best surgeons are absolute BarStewards to the junior doctors and nurses under them and put the fear of god up everyone.

As a medical student I can totally confirm this - some of the best surgeons and often best medical doctors often have awful behaviour towards juniors. Obviously not al of them, you get some amazing ones who are super nice as well but often they are very demanding with little patience if you don't do what they want immediately

I always requested one vet, whoever she left my practice a few weeks ago now. There's still seven vets at my clinic but a lot of them are new or interns (I have no problem with this, everyone starts somewhere and their all great) the two directors have both dropped to part time now only working three day weeks and the head of clinic is so busy she doesn't do yard visits.

I've been waiting since Thursday for one of the directors to call me back. Just spoken to the practice to be told my vet of choice now doesn't work Tuesdays!

I also put my brave pants on last week and have had a note popped on my account for the certain vet not to ring me back if I request a call back unless it's an emergency.
