My horses mane fell out when he was poorly and in hospital, it wasn't rubbed as it came out from the root and the vet concluded it was due to his illness. It has grown back loads but now he has started rubbing his mane and tail, not to the point where he has sores but the mane/tail is coming out!
He does get leg mites and has a dectomax injection for them. Last summer he never rubbed once.
My question is how do you tell whether it is mites that are the issue or sweet itch?
He is having a dectomax injection next week and has been washed with antibacterial shampoo and is being treated for sweet itch. Could the sweet itch be a result of all the medication he was/is on? He is stabled from 7:30am until 6:30pm to keep him off the grass and out of the heat and flies, he has rubbed his tail on a tree/fencing and the yard owner wont allow electric fencing.
Please help, I am at my wits end with problem after problem!
