as above really... im struggling :( i comb it over, iv pulled it to the right, i damp it down with all sorts of potions ....then the next day its back to the left!!! grrrr.... oh and i cant do a running plait to save my life!! lol .. anyone have any tips :) x

You need a pair of stretch stockings (in super size) which you can cut down to slip over his head or buy a cheap lycra hood (better option) so when you lay it with water, leave it on and eventually it will tame the roots to grow to the new side.

ooh never thought of that!! can you turn out in them? or just use in stable? thankyou =]

eta - im researching now on ebay :) iv got a 3 yr old 14.1ish warmblood x welsh.... would you get a medium size?? :)

I was watching something yesterday, team fredericks i think lol and it said very often the mane falls on the side that the horse favours, ie a leftr handed horse has a left handed falling mane! x

I had this with donovans mane, so I washed it, plaited it on the right, quite tightly whilst it was still wet, then left them in for aboout 4-5 days. Took the plaits out, wet it again and its laid on the right side absolutely fine now.

We had a TB with the mane of a pit pony- he sported the most impressive afro you've ever seen, and it only really looked presentable when I'd spent the best part of 40 minutes (usually takes me 20!) wrestling it into plaits... To get it vaguely on the right side, we'd brush it over, wet it and then put it into lots of little (not curled up!) plaits. Left it in for a few days, then would remove them and it would stay on the right side for a bit. We did this once a month for nearly a year and although it still looked mad, it lay on the right side...

there may be something in that... hes just started a bit of lunging and playing in the school and prefers the left rein.. i just thought that it was because he was used to me handling/leading from that side though x

Mooching with intent in here as the Boy's mane just sticks straight up in the style of a punk.... Very cute looking but not on either side gawd knows what it says about him lol! Will give the plaits a go now its a bit longer last time they stuck straight up too :p :D

perhaps he is ambidextruos (however its spelt) !! :)

I spent about the first 6 months with my horse trying all of the above tips, and probably others as well, and eventually gave up and accepted that it would always look like a cabbage patch! Every now and again I renew my efforts, but although it looks OK for an hour or two, it never lasts! Now I've just got used to it!

My horse's mane lies perfectly on the left hand side, so I just leave it there. I reckon if it is good enough for Jessica Kuerten then it is good enough for me!
