Think this is where you need to be:
That seems to be the passport arm of Irish Horse Register.

I've just done it, follow the links above and there is a form to complete. Very easy but did take a while!

Are you in the UK? Just be aware technically you should get the horse overstamped by a UK society too, if it hasn't been done already. Its so the horse's passport no/microchip is on the National Database and I think Defra are cracking down on imported horses...well so they say. There is a list on here https://help.equineregister.co.uk/en/articles/3054824-my-equine-has-a-foreign-passport
then look for the link for passport issuing organisations PIOs. We chose one of the societies (SPSS) and paid £30 for that top x

I had real problems sending passports back to Ireland, you have to do a customs declaration but they still got held up for weeks. I then discovered you can send the to the BEF in this country and they will do a change of ownership and overstamp so I did this with the next one - it was cheaper and much quicker.

Yep I didn't realise this either! I only found out this week when I went to send it to get it overstamped 🤦‍♀️

Mine took about 4 weeks, a week or so to get there, then they had it a good 2 weeks then it took a bit to send back. I paid extra for all the recorded deliveries etc...was £40 odd quid x

I also did the send it straight to BEF - I rang them to ask how I go about it, having got completely confused, especially as I had no info about when she’d arrived in the UK, and the lovely helpful person in the other end just told me to send everything to them and they’d do the import, overstamp and change of ownership in one go. Was back with me in about a week/10 days I think

I’m in exactly the same position. New horse is unnamed on his passport so I need to get this done

Is this since Brexit? I don't think I had to do a customs declaration a few years back.....

Can someone clarify re the BEF? What is that? Just bought an ISH and have my forms printed and ready to go but if I can avoid sending to Ireland that would be nice!
It’s the British horse federation

I’m in the same boat as you. Bought an ISH last week so just working out about registering etc. I phoned BEF this morning and am waiting for a reply. Potentially seems a much easier way to do it but my horse is unnamed so might be a bit more complicated

Also which forms have you got printed please?

Doesn't just have to be BEF, it can be any UK society on this list...

I overstamped with SPSS and they asked if if already done change of ownership on the Irish passport or not as they can do that when you over stamp.

Basically in the UK it's a legal requirement for all horses to be on this, the Central Equine Database.

Ours wasn't as from abroad, so have overstamped so she is on the Database but also as they have to be on a UK society.

I asked several British passport agencies and British Equestrian Federation (BEF) were the only one that said they would do a change of ownership at the time although I obviously I didn't contact every single british PIO. Most said I had to send to Ireland for change of ownership and then send to a british PIO for overstamping whereas BEF did it all at once.

That's good, for anyone with an pony the SPSS will do the change of ownership too if you need it! I just wasn't aware so paid twice in effect x
