There have been a few dodgy husbands knocking around the forum this week, so I thought I would start a tongue in cheek thread to help single horsey people vet future spouses.... Feel free to add suggestions!

Has a serious hobby themself

B LIST (They get 2 points for these)

Earns a fortune and isn't mean!!
Will come to the yard now and again
Supports you at shows
Doesn't whinge at the time/money you spend
Can tolerate the smell of horses
Has a dog or other animal
Can't cook but happy to buy takeaway for you after a busy day
Drives and doesn't mind you getting in the car dirty

C LIST (They get one point for these)

Could probably pick your horse out on the livery yard
Films the right person at competitions
Can just about make a pot noodle

Drives but wants the car immaculate (can be worked on...)

D LIST (Minus two points for this)

Hates animals
Can't cook, Won't cook (and I don't mean watches it on TV)

Cheats on you

E LIST (Minus 10 points for these and probable elimination)

Forces you to spend less time at the stables
Cheats on you more than once
Controls your life
Reckons to own you

All serious relationships should score at least 30 points, 50 for someone you live with or have children with.

Feel free to add to the list in another colour!!

My OH only gets 35 or so points but I personally think he is the perfect horsey hubby.

I don't want a man who can ride or tow the trailer as they'd just tell me how I was doing it wrong the whole time! Much better they're clueless frankly!

Edited the points as the 80 was pretty hard to reach!

If they ride and tow but criticise you they need negative points for it... Its lovely riding out with your OH and great to have someone drive you home after a ODE 50 miles away.

I agree mine was less hassle when he knew nothing he has a horse and hunts now and it's fun in lots of ways and we do carriage driving trials together ( I drive and he hangs on the back ) but honestly I have my best fun with them when he's not around shhhhh tell no one !
However he's a hero works so hard and lets me live my dream with my horses in a lovely house with stables etc and having read a couple of the threads this week I am definatly very very lucky.

I never wanta horsey oh again!! Most of our arguments have been about the horses, and it makes it harder to leave them if you love their horses too! This is my problem I'm afraid!!
I have a lengthy list of boxes future partners must tick, although I currently live with the horsey one.

Mine gets 62 and I wouldn't change him for the world! Although he should get 1000 points for each of the horses he helped/encouraged me to buy! So grand total of 2,062 points!!

Mine comes out with 18 :D
Been married for 11 years, lived together longer....
He's NOT a fan of horses, dislikes the time I spend there in the winter etc.
However - he learnt not to complain when he muttered once & I let fly & told him where his suitcase was :D
All is fine - he gets on with sorting out the racebikes eves & weekends - I do horse things - its only the winter when the race season is finished & he takes time out for Nov & Dec that he gets 'antsy' & I have to occasionally wield a lunge whip ;) otherwise is fine :)
He's been trained to put a dinner in the oven 3 nights a week in winter (it might only be a re-heat jobbie from the supermarket, but at least its warm food when I get in after doing the yard after work :)

So, I have my hobby, he has his hobby - and I share his hobby too as 2 of the 3 bikes are mine :D

Mine got 45 - he would have done better if he was in any way horsey, but I've only had the horse a couple of months. Give me time and I'll train him.

A great list, seems all points have been covered. I don't have an OH anymore, though my previous one scored highly when I didn't have a horse, it all went downhill when I decided to get one. If he had money I could have put up with it...

Mine got 42. He tolerates horses and is happy for me to spend a lot of time at the yard and stinking of horses. He can tell which one is mine and does try to help with poo-picking, mucking out etc. He would rather not come to the yard but he will always support me at shows just as I support him in his hobby!

Mine is pleased to be winning so far! Today he has helped me load my new semi-feral pony, towed the trailer with said pony in, picked up pony's feet for the first time (he can hang on, I can't!), chopped logs, walked the dogs, and has now gone dogging in for the shoot. Dinner out tonight too - I'll drive, I think his halo is shining almost too brightly!

He may not ride... yet but he does enjoy coming to the yard in the fresh air (when the weather is nice) and he sweeps, grooms, walks out, does fence posts, fixes cars and videos lessons for which I think he deserves extra points :D

Although I may have to have points subtracted as I don't know where the hoover is or the washing up liquid and I abandon him regularly to fend for himself bad gf that I am :S He is currently spring cleaning the flat for my return.

My hubby scores 75! And gets extra points for being a farrier and shoeing my it's for me. Extra 1 point as one is ( can be) a git to shoe and never moans about that either :)

Mine gets 43 but he is perfect! I think the lack of car/driving lets him down on this list but I don't mind it because I don't drive either. Also quite a few relate to having a horse or access to one for shows etc which sadly I don't have at the mo :( but I'm sure he would be really helpful if we ever went to a show! He loves animals and likes that I have a hobby that I love - he understands because he feels the same about football! Amazing cook too :D

My oh gets 68 points! I was being quite mean with this too! Hate to make people sick, but he's perfect for me and daughter! Encouraging with just enough of the kick up the backside stuff thrown in!

He should get extra points for being amazing at fixing everything (completely refurbed our box and paid for big mot bill!) always on hand with leather hole punch, knows when daughter is on wrong diagonal or canter lead, takes Dolly for "walks" just because he loves her, and saves his lunchtime apples for her! Watches 99% of daughters lessons (pays for a good few too) and to top it all is massively allegic to horses and has to have 4 weekly injections to keep him out of the hospital due to his horsey allergy!

In short, he's awesome and I'm a really lucky girl!!!

Sorry everyone, soppy post and yes, I am a bit smug!!! ; )

Mine gets 25.

Not outdoorsy, not horsey, doesn't like animals, doesn't drive, doesn't do DIY. On the plus side, he has his own very time-consuming hobbies and he likes that he gets to be busy all the time without me moping round the house on my own. He sat on my old mare once, and had a naturally good position - he would quite happily learn to potter round the woods with me if we could afford a nice chunky plod type for him.

I think he's perfect - I should do as I'm marrying him in six months' time! :)

I'm very very lucky as I met my OH through horses and he prob has more experience with them than me!

Only down side is him thinking he knows better (although to be fair he probably does!) :p

Think mine gets extra points for helping to install an arena, fencing whole stretches of field, and managing to get a hosepipe rapped around his and the horses legs and being towed comically by said hosepipe down the track. He dosent like horses:D
