How to vet your other half for horsey people!

My husband is mostly on the B list and has a couple of C list points... No A list :(, but thankfully NO D or E list traits either :D. He's rich though... and kind... and he pretty much lets me gets on with it.. and he loves me so 10 trillion points!!!
He does hate the smell of horses, a strand of horse hay on the sofa is enough to induce hysterics, he doesn't like me using his car for bales of shavings or anything actually and trying to get him to let us have a cat in the house is an ongoing project.. minus 1000 points.
He does like my horse to stroke though, he comes up every now and again with a carrot and I know he would never let me sell my horse so plus 200 points.
Aw he'll do :p.

Mine got 64 :)

He wasn't horsey when we met but was interested right away. He's great, tries to ride occasionally but needs to learn really, and he's a bit big for mine.

But he always takes days off for comps, helps get horse ready and before shows (if we need to leave right after I finish work to get there the night before he even baths), he does studs and tacks up for me at comps :D also mucks out, when I had a horse on DIY and worked at a yard he used to look after her on his days off to give me a break.

And now that I work on a dif yard and my horse is at work, he cooks dinner every night and does most of the cleaning asi'm always so knackered.. AND (this is how perfect he is), I'm leaving the yard I'm working at to go freelance and he said he'll take care of the bills ect, I basically just have to work enough to pay for the horses, so I can do more or less hours accordingly depending on whether I want to get a third horse or not, whilst he'll pay for everything else.

From a husbands point of view !!
Life was much more straight forward when I merely liked horses but knew nothing about them.Since marrying the saintly Cluny and siring two sprogs with her,and buying my own horse and learning to ride, it has got more complicated.
Increased horsiness on the husbands side leads to arguments over who plays with horses and who wrangles kids.Poor wife gets to ride less than ever when riding used to be how she defined herself.
Juggling running a business, bringing up kids,ENJOYING horses, and working on a good relationship ,takes commitment and effort on both sides, but it can be done.In response to original post though, I wouldn't fancy it if I didn't like horses !

Well, my partner of 15 years scored -3!!!!

Needless to say, he is an ex now. Resented absolutely everything to do with horses (unless they were running round a track winning him money!). Resented the time they took, never got involved, never watched his daughter compete at shows and decided to dump his family by text after having an affair for a year and a half. Nice guy huh!
Think I will give guys a miss from now on! :)

Mine is now sulking he is currently in 3rd place (i think) he wants to know if he can have 10 points for getting my silly ginger mare to load nicely on new lorry while I toddled about being hysterical & not much help :D

Mine scored 67 points a keeper I think:D oh and he is allergic to horses bless him. I love him to bits and would give a trillion extra points for him being so very lovely with no questions or implied blame when I was sold a rearer recently

Mine is coming in at high 50's. Technically he owns the horse (cos I gave him Arnie for his birthday - it was the only way to get a new one in the gate!) and he can do all mucking out and feeding but no riding or tacking up.

He does all the housework and spends all his free time keeping the place lovely and doing repairs and such like - and yes, he works full time!

He lost points because he moans a bit but not about Arnie - only about me leaving things at my arse all the time *woops*.

Oh, and does he get extra points cos he's a mechanic so I get all my jeep and trailer servicing done for nothing :D

52 points :D
My OH allowed me to have a lie in until 12.30 today (NEVER usually happens as I'm up by 7!), then helped me poo pick, then took the (disgusting) rugs to be cleaned with me (didn't complain about hair or smell), then ran the electric cable for the lights he is installing for me :D then made me a cheese and ham omelette for supper using the eggs I was given today :)

Could be worse! ;)

Mine got 16, but can honestly say as far as horses go, he's ideal. Not horsey at all, but an animal lover so likes them, tends to treat them like giant dogs. And understands that they have needs, & that horses make me (& daughter) happy & they'll always be an important part of my life. Only sees them every few weeks, & doesn't have time consuming hobbies himself. But when I was ill & daughter 5, he took her up & did the lifting & heavy stuff under her supervision. While only friends, he came round unasked, when he should have been on a night out, at 10pm to mind my sleeping daughter while I sat up at the yard all night with my friend & her colicing horse. Or when I had done a swap so we could have a lie in one sunday, he shook me awake at 7am to say the horses would be waiting for breakfast. Loads of little things make him the ideal horsey oh.

Oooooh first time my hubby will score highly on this kind of thing! He got about 60 on the list above.

I'd like him to get 20 bonus points for being better at mucking out than me. And another 20 for doing all the cleaning in the house.

Mine gets 22!!
He is a Chef so can defo cook, grand with DIY BUT not into horses at all... don't know if he would have put the ring on my finger when he did if he though I was going to get back into horses 7mths ago & now we have a horse & a pony:rolleyes:

My Jeep smells of horses all the time which IMO isn't a bad smell & the minute myself & our daughter are in from the yard we cant set foot inside the sitting room till we shower:)

Wow..16! but scored on the important things like cooking support and earnings. I'm planning to take full advantage of his ignorance :) the only horse he's interested in are the ones you place bets on and win! I get dragged along to the parade ring to tell him which ones look good. Tne conversation normally goes..
OH.. Ok which one looks good?
Me.. Oh the grey is soo pretty
OH. I dont care about the looks.. Who looks like they can run.?
Me. Stuffed if I know but that grey is sooo pretty. Can I have it please?

Grey was called duke of Rainford and came third (-: won £30 :D

My lovely boyfriend scores 45 :) he's not horsey (Which im glad about!!) but he's so supportive and really likes jango. He's also passionate about football, so he's training 1 night, matches on sunday and watching it with his mates a couple of other nights. He has been to a few shows and comes to the yard with me sometimes. I think he should get extra points for sweet/motivational texts before all my shows as he can't usually come because we're long distance. And also some bonus points because he's done some chef'ing in the past so he's an awesome cook!

I scored mine 89.5. He can hitch the trailer up and drive the lorry, but not on the roads as he hasnt done his hgv or B+E test. Think Ive done very well :)

29 ... Should I be worried? (been together 15 yrs. 2 kids) . To be fair, he has only had yo put up with horses sinces last year as i returned to riding after a 20 yr gap, once the kids got hooked and i got thrm a pony ...

I agree mine was less hassle when he knew nothing he has a horse and hunts now and it's fun in lots of ways and we do carriage driving trials together ( I drive and he hangs on the back ) but honestly I have my best fun with them when he's not around shhhhh tell no one !
.

hehe. Your secret's safe with me :D I wouldn't want to share my hobby with OH at all. I view my time with the horses as my time/time to see my friends.

He's very good and will help me poo pick/put up shelves and saddle racks but I really wouldn't want him to get too involved. I like the fact he has his own hobbies and doesn't just piggy back on to what I'm doing with my life!

Mine got 73 and is worth ten trillion :D Not least after spending the entire day yesterday doing up my trailer with me, even shooing me off to a hair appointment at lunchtime when I'd massively underestimated how long the sanding and painting would take, and then the very first thing he said this morning was 'Can I come and help you with anything today?' He comes to shows at whatever hour and takes photos and videos, wants to get into riding (he'd just about mastered rising trot last year :D), offers to go (and does) to the feed merchant for me after work even when he's already got home and cosy. Plenty of his own proper hobbies and good friends, never moans, is generous, funny, patient to the extreme, loving and well fit ;)

Yay 76 :D

I'm never moaning about him again, just got back from a hen weekend and both horses are fine, groomed and feet picked and field poo picked twice a day. He's also repaired the fence my pony leant on and broke, oh and got a got a new safety cable for the trailer after I snapped it unhitching last week :o

And he's making me supper cos I'm exhausted and hungover :p

My OH scored a mighty 22. Bless him. He hates horses and hates the smell but apart from moaning I need to bath as soon as I get in, he wouldn't dare complain more than that. Oh he makes me clean my teeth as well in case some horsey germ gets passed on if I kiss Idiotpony and then him.

He should get some kind of bonus point though as he'll record me horsey things on tv that he thinks I might like without me asking and is in the good books lately for paying for me to visit him in Vienna and paying for me to go to the Spanish Riding School as a surprise :) :)
Refused to come with me though :( dropped me off outside and collected me after :)

Yeah for bubbie - scored 78. But should get extra for buying me a lovely riding horse when I had junior and a lovely foal for crimbo one year (then buying me a presssie as I wouldn't have anything to open on Christmas day and had picked foalie myself.
