how to wash a horse?

mine gets hosed down first then i fill a bucket with a bit of shampoo and dilute it and use that.
I used non-diluted shampoo on his mane and tail because they get really greasy.
I use the hose to rinse him and stick him under the solarium to dry off.
I use a damp sponge around his poll/ears because he's such a wuss and panics the minute the hose goes near his face.

I've done 3 mares today (they were moulting and skanky and needed a good bath!) I have a fast and effective method - I have horse shampoo (Dermoline) in plastic washing up liquid bottle and squirt it over DRY horse. I then use warm water shower (a luxury not everyone has) and a plastic curry comb to scrub and distribute the shampoo and pull the loose coat. When the whole horse is soapy, I swap to a sweat scraper and use that and hose to rinse - then scrape dry. Then I chuck a cooler on and do the tail! Takes about 30 minutes for a really thorough scrub!
