I have just bought a grey mare with a pure white tail other than it is very orange at the ends. I think it's caused by urine staining it as she is a bit mareish to say the least. I have tried washing it several times but it never looks any whiter. Any suggestions welcome please.

Milton tablets!

Disolve in warm water, soak tail for 5-10 minutes and hey presto a white tail!

Steradent tablets and other false teeth cleaning type tablets also work!

well i wouldn't recommend this for everyday use but i had a grey and when i wanted him clean for a show the best thing i found was tescos value fairy liquid

Yeah Quiksilver is good stuff as well, just don't leave it on too long

Also Supreme Showing do a purple shampoo which is very good as well, but again is pricey and don't leave it on too long!!!

I do my horses white tail bits with Vanish granules in hot water or ace bleech, i then wash off with shampoo and condition with VO5 or whatever the supermarket has on offer!

My grey mares tail was orange all over because she's so filthy. So I got some cheap shampoo and foamed it up, rinsed. I then got some stain remover/extra strength shampoo and foamed it up, rinsed. I then got a vanish stick (they look abit like a deodorant) and rubbed this all over the tail (but not near skin) and left it to soak for a while. I then used blue shampoo on it and rinsed. Her tails never sparkled so much in all its life

I'm sure vanish and blue shampoo would have just as good effects.

Bar of soap and hot water. Work up a good lather and do several times, would not use on upper tail just the bottom. The old green soap is ideal but any will do the job.
