Keep your horse calm and not tense when riding? See my horse is EXTREMLY forward going no legs aids are needed just a shorten of the reins! But now the spring grass has come through it has hit him like a nail on the head!!! He is currently 14 going on 3! Any excercises to keep him calm and controlled and fluent while riding???

Just a little hint sing whilst riding. it grts oxygen inbody to help muscles relax and helps to relax mind. was shown this 33 years ago abd still do even in situations on ground and daughter sings now lol :)

I shall be watching this thread with interest! My horse is very sensitive and can panic and at the moment this is happening nearly everytime I ride him in the school! I don't think I am helping as it is making me feel a bit nervous so tomorrow I have a friend coming to sit with me while I ride so I have someone to chat to and help me relax. I feel silly because he is usually a good boy and on Saturday I took him out with my friends horse in the trailer for a hack in a new location and he was so chilled he was verging on lazy!

Mine is almost 15 so you'd think he'd know better too! Very useful having that spark in a jump off though even better as he is a cob and no one expects him to be that nippy!

Give him a few more things to think about on ride..shoulder in, leg yield etc. Riding with company helps calm mine down & regular decent amount of work.

Keeping yourself calm & relaxed may help, my horse is good as gold with me but put a tense or nervous person on him & he falls to pieces! Also you say you need no leg aids as he's very forward, in this case I would say you should be using a lot of leg aids to desensitise him.. A decent instructor can help u with this. We had to do this with my boy when I first got him as he found the ménage very stressful.. Now is good as gold.
