Well today for us marks the last day of the breeding season with the last of the mares scanned. Just wondered how everybody on here would sum up their 2007 breeding season.

For us it has been completely mixed, with a lot of mares that will be late for 2008 due to the horrible weather we got during the breeding season (although my buddy AP will say its not down to this...

). We have not had such a year before and I truely hope that 2008 is much better............

Last scans for us are on wens so fingers crossed. I would say it has been a strange year (and yes do partly blame the weather) we also have late foals and from what i gather so do many others who have been lucky enough to get a foal at all!

a crap year in comparison to previous years. Only 4/7 mares in foal for us although my boss has 3/3 due. However the earleir mares all needed at least 2 attempts before they caught and their seasons have been hard to predict this year .

I hope 2008 is better too, will be starting early with 4 of mine (only one of which was left empty on purpose)

For us this is a quiet year, I have sold all my 2008 foals

........... which has stopped me being tempted to keep any .................

My homebred Stallions are off to Boot Camp - just need to sit back & calm down <lol> , I feel so responsible,
0-3 years was a doddle, just watching my handsom lads play & grow, educating them along the way - so that they are nice people
wink.gif
But they are young men now and I am feeling a mixture of excitment and fear!!! lol..... I have had some superb feedback from people about them but we will soon see if they are good enough to take forward for grading next year...........

Sitting my LGV in a few weeks

and if I pass - yippeeee - I can sell my little 7.5 lorry and go shopping for a big one !

But the worst thing!!!! Renovating the cottage and paddocks/fields this year so that we can either put the property up for sale / or lease it in the New Year
laugh.gif
(it seemed like such a good idea when my OH and I decissed it in the spring lol!!)

So much left to do - and so little time

lol

You're in a very different part of the country (well, in fact a different country really) to me Anastasia... It probably was the weather where you are which caused all the difficulties

Not bad here. 2 not in foal, everything else (somewhere around 35) in foal. We actually finished with an embryo transfer at the end of July. Just been resting and harvesting & freezing epididymal sperm from poor castrated colts since then.

The early part of the season went well as far as getting mares back in foal was concerned - they all took first time pretty much, bar one who insisted on ovulating over both May bank holidays! But after June we had a hell of a job getting them in foal - with only 2 subsequently scanning in foal in 2 months. So we managed to get 12 out of 15 in foal.

We had a bad year with regards with losing foals though - losing our beautiful palomino colt to joint ill at 12 days old and the lovely Leo at 6 weeks to an unknown field incident.

I was pleased with our AI success rate though as it was our first season using AI and doing it ourselves and it has given me more confidence for next year using AI now

Cr*p for me, failed to get mine in foal. But good for work as they had 2 lovely foalies and both mares took first time back in foal.

Well I won't be sorry to see the back of 2007 I have to admit!
I seem to have gone from one diaster to another all year!! March had to have Romeo pts, April had to have Ousbek pts, May got rushed into hospital, June got flooded, July got flooded AGAIN!.............

On the bright side despite everything I managed to get 17 gorgeous foals on the floor and have got 10 of my own mares in foal for 2008, though I don't know how..............well actually I know how but logistically its been a nightmare! I have several mares that we never even got round to trying to get in foal but they can all be started early next year....

Roll on 2008.......................you better be better than 2007!!
