Am curious & makes for an interesting read as I have my first one on my mare this weeknd and have no expectation whatsoever as she only was doing BSJA before but I love XC so much I have 'made' her into an eventer LOL

So when was it
where was it

and how did you do???

I was lucky and given the ride on a horse established at Novice although no great shakes. I think we did a reasonable dressage, had a few down SJing and a run out XC. That was at Lanhydrock probably about 95!

OMG - I can't remember! Don't think it could have been particularly good or bad or I would have remembered!

I can remember my mums first one... I'd been show jumping him and she warmed him up like a total idiot so I was stressing at her (I was a lovely child!) anyway she some how managed a lovely clear and then had to go and throw up behind the porter loos!

Think she ended up 5th or something - not bad when she was clearly rather nervous!

Mine was at Windsor RC, it was in 2003 and it was in the Intro, on a 6yr old that had done nothing really apart from a biut of dressage and SJing with me for a few mths.

His dressage wasnt great as he was very down hill, he got 40, 11 pens SJing, think one stop one pole and a couple of time and then clear XC

My daughters the same she is like my mum. !!
She is coming with me for moral support as i reakon ill be behind the portaloo too!!

My only problem is my horse can be a bit nappy over the first xc jump but I will be ready!! We all have to start somewhere I suppose!

Mine was at Belmont Park last year, didn't really know what to expect and remember thinking the intro jumps were huge!! Don't think I slept the night before.
Anyway, got a 40 dressage, one pole sj'ing, and my horse with a heart of gold went clear xc. Silly me thought we were in with a shout but cuz I really didn't have a clue and only cantered round the xc ended up with something ridiculous like 30 time faults!! Doh.
Was just so chuffed to go clear xc though!!!

mine was the intro at Little Mattingley in 2003, got 34.2 dressage, 16 pens SJ (how we used to manage to get round back then i never know, we are much better at SJ now.!!) and a clear XC but with 27 time pens, i think i did the whole thing in med canter.. i thought i was going quite fast tho.!!! was totally cr*ping myself but it was so much fun.!

Bradwall in April 2002, I did PN did a miraculous dressage score of 41, clear SJ and XC with 2 time pens. I came 15th.
I remember walking the course the day before with my mum and being a bit scared as I hadn't been eventing since PC some 10-12 years previous. My mare was the same, my sister had done some BN's with her, I did an unaff ODE she loved it and away we went!

I was sooooo nervous that I really was tense and wooden. Got an awful dressage score and held back in SJ, making my mare knock two rails. The XC was clear and I got loads of time faults cos I couldn't judge the speed.

At the end I was really cross with myself for allowing the nerves to affect me but I was so elated that we was clear XC. I think I got overtaken 1/2 way round the XC - that shows how slow I was!!!

I am sad to be missing out this year as I'm putting my mare in foal but each time, the nerves got less, along with the time faults!!

My first one was June 06, forst one for me and the Horse (frankie) we did the PN at west wilts and got 34.3 dressage clear SJ, clear XC and 0.8 time we came 6th!, was so surprised as i didnt think we would come anywhere!

Mine was an intro at Windsor Racecourse on my ex - horrid nappy sh*tty horse.
It threatened to rear through most of the dressage, think I got about 47, then went to stop in the sj and got a crack so went hell for leather round the rest demolishing most stuff in it's path (were were close to CR). Then napped like crazy going to the XC start and I thought we were going to end up in the river, but flew round the XC clear despite massively over-reaching coming of the bank and loosing his shoe and half his heel

So all in all a great start

B & J - Sounds exactly like what usually happens to me

im sure I wont be the only one. I am the sort of person who does look at things like this as fun - eh hem but hey I have planned 12 this year and will do them as long as I dont get balloted or injured, whatever happens!

Mine was an Intro, first event for both of us. I was sooo nervous, thought it was huge, and didn't sleep much the night before.

I think I got a dire 47 for the dressage, had one down show jumping, then totally over-rode round the cross country through fear, but as a consequence went clear (poor horse had no choice but to go with me flapping and kicking like hell). But then I pulled up after the last fence, and walked through the finish - what a muppet!!!

Still, I did start blubbing a bit after the cross country because I was so happy we'd gone clear and I'd actually been eventing, and therefore fulfilled a long-held ambition. Drove the 3 hours home with a massive beam on my face!

Good luck, you'll love it.

mine was shipton moyne in 2005 we did intro, we got a 36 dressage (we went in the rain :-( - but this was terrrible - we had won a pc 3'3 event the weekend before and had been 2nd in the dressage!) and went clear SJ and 9 time faults xc - it was then i realised how slow we went xc - have since gone quicker and now we go much more fluently!

Mine was at the Duchy in Cornwall in a PN. I had showjumped him for a couple of years and was up to Newcomers. We got 39 dressage ,2 sj down and clear xc, think we were about 15th.

I knew I had made acouple of mistakes in the dressage, so thought it would be easier after that but I never improved on that dressage score. In fact this turned out to be a typical score for us and our favourite placing was 11th !! still, we had fun, especially across country.

Disaster!! Mine was in 2003 at Malpas, first BE for myself & the horse. For some reason decided to go straight into PN & paid the penaltly! A whopping 47 dressage, 1 down in the SJ & elimated at a stone ditch in the XC. I remember thinking the XC was huge & ive never returned to Malpas since!!!

Mine was an Intro 2 years ago. Ok dressage for him, jumped clear, then pointed him at a N fence XC, realised, pulled him up, and circled to the Intro fence. Got 20 pens for pulling him up and also time faults - doh!

We only did 2 that year, both intros, then 2nd one I managed to miss a fence XC so got a big fat TE!!!

Belton Novice April 1999, went straight into Novice as you do!! had done few PC open events - she was a very good mare!

31 dressage, fence down SJ, silly run out at corner XC and few time faults!

Was in shock how 'professional' it all was and we parked near some 'big' names was quite intimidated..... went on to be placed just about everytime out at Novice for the rest of that season

The JRN at Bicton in 96. Finished 11th after a rubbish dressage, and a clear SJ and almost clear XC but he cocked his jaw and ran straight past the final fence. WOuld have been 5th.

You live and learn!

i did the intro at skipton and did an awful dressage due to my nerves and got 40. then went double clear but had a few problems with the time as horse was spooking majorly at a cow so got some time penalties!!! woops!

My (and my horses) very first BE was in 2004. We did an intro, got a 43 dressage and double clear so came 6th overall. He did one other Intro that year and got 4th so he moved up to PN the next season.

Whereas my other horses first Intro was in September last year and wasnt quite such a good result - He got a 43 dressage (but it was dreadful, should have been like a 60!), 1 down SJ and clear XC but 15 time penalties! To be fair though he'd only done maybe 4 or 5 very small unaffiliated XC's ever so was still very green. I just wanted to get him round the XC clear which he did no problem so I was actually very happy with him that day. However, I am now working on trying to get a gallop out of him for this years BE!

It was the Pre- Novice at Burgie 2001. I came 9th. 44 dressage and double clear. It was my first proper cross country on that horse (I had gone round a 2'6 course the year before) as it was foot and mouth year. But Glen was a superstar. My sister did her first BE event on him and came third in the JRN before and she actually only did 2 novices in 1999 before doing a CCI*.

Mine was the intro at Richmond in 2006. I got a 56 dressage, three down sj and clear but very slow xc. Both me and the horse were very nervous but big improvement a year later in the PN with a 34 dressage.

Mine was at Markyate PN in 1992 (yep, I really am that old!

) on William and he did a 25 dressage, double clear and was 3rd. I was shocked but delighted.

my mare and i had only ever sjed and done a few hunter trials, and one tiny riding club event.
it was Brigstock Novice in 1988. i learnt the wrong test, discovered my error 10 mins before test, did a totally rubbish test for 44, and finished on that. found the sj and xc very easy actually... i thought "this is simple, as long as i get the dressage sorted i'm going to be winning everything"... yeah, right. i don't think i finished on my dressage again for ages!

My first event was the PN at Bicton in 2003. I thought I would enter the PN as I was on a ticket and had more chance of getting in....

So Wilmer was a big fat Swedish Warmblood who had never done dressage in his life, had done one 2'6 XC 8 months before - and had had a couple of stops, but did do SJing.

I had never evented and hadn't done a dressage test in about 4 years. So I was slightly shocked to be in 2nd by half a mark after the dressage. The show jumping was in the main arena and Wilmer thought this was fantastic, first time outdoors and he demolished the course - I had 3 down - this horse won a lot of BSJA - so slightly embrassing.

I forgot my medical armband and had to go back to the lorry to get it. He went clear XC, but they gave me 20 penalties - I have no idea where they thought he stopped as he didn't but that's eventing.

My first event... awwwww.
