How wide should partitions be?

This is a daft question but how much of a gap either side of the horse should there be when they are travelling in a horsebox partition? We're trying to configure ours for our pony and I don't want it too narrow/wide for him. I know they balance with their legs not leaning on the sides...but how narrow is too narrow? He's had not great travelling experiences so need to make it as comfortable as possible.

Also, it's a herringbone set up and because he's not big he can get his head fully under the gap at the front of the partition you walk through to get to him ...other than tying up really short is there anything we can safely do to stop him poking his neck through? Thanks!

Can't help with the gap, but can you not fix a rubber flap at the front, similar to what is at the bottom of partitions in HB505/510 and so on? I'm sure I've seen those in boxes, too.

We added an extra piece to the partition on ours as horse used to try to out his head under. The partition is set so there is him and you could just squeeze in alongside him. Not very scientific but best way to describe the space. The bottom of the partitions are rubber skirts. Quite strong but moveable

I think you have to judge the gap according to the individual horse and there size some need more room than others to travel, I always try to give mine a good amount of space at the back as they like to stand wide behind.

And obviously a big horse is going to need more space than a pony, I would always give more room for a horse that has previously not travelled well.

Thank you, we've set it up the same width as the ifor 510 which he's travelled in before and will see how it goes..we tried one hole less but that seemed too narrow.
