How would non-novice cope with this everyday situation?

Like others said, i'd just have yelled sooner!

I trot mine down quite steep roads but they're barefoot and therefore have far better grip. I'd not trot a shod horse, prone to slipping, down a skiddy tarmac road! And if I was forced to by someone else, i'd insist my horse behaved, then tear strips off the idiot rider after!

It sounds more like a personal confidence issue rather that being novice with horses! I'd have no problem saying 'OI, you guys, WALK!' where as you're clearly much nicer and politer than me! :o

Part of being non-novice with horses (or anything) is having the confidence in your own knowledge to stand up and say 'actually no, I don't agree'

i agree with this!!

What's wrong with riding and leading on the road??
The led horse should be on the inside and the riding horse the side nearest traffic.

At MKE? She, and Nigel, used to come to our yard to instruct.

No- it was a long time ago- Ann had a yard in the same willage as Nigel's very posh yard - we used to use his school- Ashton was it?- so long ago and done so much since then. We moved to a different yard near Banbury and soon after that I left as had decided to go to Uni.

Hope she doesn't read this, you describe her like a horse :D :D

I think she would be very complemented actually! And she should be - she is stunning to look at - English Sports Horse - not too highly strung, lovely paces, never sick or sorry. Honestly!

It's just that I am some weird foreign breed and was always the person picked last at games (to mix my metaphors!).
