If you had a horse who was broncing every time you rode it and once you fell off it kept on broncking regardless of if you was in the way of it and you had pro riders on and it done the same would you

Other - I'd stop riding it immediately and make appointments for back, teeth and saddle to be checked. If all well then I would take horse back to beginning and re-break it.

I would have the horse checked out by a vet to see if there was anything physically wrong, plus get teeth and saddle checked too.

if you haven't had back checked do so my boy used to bronc every time i got on had his back done and he is fine it took a while to get him out of the habbit of thinking it might hurt but 6 years on he is fine still a stress head but thats just him lol pm me if you need name of someone who sorted my boys back out

Other - agree with Tia - I've been in this exact situation - back, teeth and especially tack checked first and then a long and patient reschooling.

All this checked, everything fine, this is not happing to me now but I was talking to a friend and I was telling her about a mare I had When I was 15 who done the above she said I was a soft S*it for putting up with the horse and if I had any sense i would of had the horse PTS incedently after 18 months of doing this the mare settled down and was one of the best I ever had and I could read her inside out and she always done her best to keep me safe, i had her till i had to have her pts through a strangulated hernia, it just got me thinking how other people would deal with this.

TO me had I of looked at all avanues I would have it PTS. Who knows one day that fall could have caused serious injry - brake your back or in the worse case brain damage - to me it is simply not worth the risk

Ditto!!

id get its back/teeth/tack checked and double checked, id get xrays done aswell to eliminate kissing spine and anyother bone related disease.

If all this was clear id turn the horse out for minimum of 6 months, then very slowly bring it back into work.

Agree with the others - my lad was exactly like this as a 4yo - all physical tests done and no problems - persevered and was just balance issue, anything he found hard he bronked at! He's now scholloing Adv Med/Adv and hasn't bucked for years

I had a mare like this and had her checked for everything and she appeared to have no problems. However, I then had her checked again more thoroughly e.g. lots of x-rays etc etc and it came to light that she had a deformity in her spine which was causing her chronic pain. This didn't show on the less intrusive tests. It took us a year to slowley put it right so she could do some gentle work and then she started the behaviour again and I ended up having a very bad accident and she had to go.

So I would say double check that there is nothing physically wrong, as it sounds to me like she is trying to say something is in pain. If there isn't, then I would personally say that she should be re-broken or sold onto someone who can do this.

After getting the vet and saddler out - I would ride in an Australian stock saddle (almost impossible to be ejected)

Eventually the horse will get bored with broncing and much better condition than a persistant rearer IMHO (my sis was squashed by a horse than back flipped)

Like I said I do not have her anymore due to a strangulated hernia its just a friend was saying how bad her horse is, and I told her about my mare and her reply in my post above shocked me to be honest, there was no pain it was behaviour I went down every road trying to find the problem, but in the end it was she only wanted to gallop and if she was asked not to that was when she done it, though as I say she evenyually stopped and was a superstar with me, but i Did do to an equine college and took her with me she went on working livery when they assesed her they said she is perfect I told them what she used to do they said that was fine she wont be a problem and when someone rode her she done the same and fractured the riders pelvis, so IMO and the colleges the horse was testing the rider out in the most nasty of ways. As I said it was all behaviour problems not pain and I had her for years and would never of parted with her

ditto - we had this situation with oakey - we thought she was being naughty, had her x-rayed and she had kissing spine!

You just described my Welshie!

Tibby was so round that his previous owners had consistantly overtightened his girth and caused muscle damage. He would buck until the saddle came off & landed me in hospital countless times.

We tried everything & even took him to a Kelly Marks clinic, but he was to difficult to deal with for a demo. So he was a very expensive field pet who had everything imagineable wrong with him.

We would never have sold him as being 12hh there was a good chance he would end up being sold on as suitable for a child.

He was PTS in September 06

I had a horse on loan for years who was an absolute angel when being ridden for the first 6 months, although she kicked every fence, wall and horse in sight, however she randomly started bucking and would just keep going until she got you off. Had everything checked and no problem could be found. I was badly hurt, completely shattered confidence and eventually she went back to her owner, and was PTS 2 weeks later after breaking another horses leg

I had her thoroughly checked as I have said in my last 2 posts it was behavioual and wondered what other people would do with a horse like that.

Hmmm

My old jumping pony used to bronk and buck we had physio dentist back saddler vet spent a fortune no one could find anything wrong….

Turned out he was just a naughty bugger who liked bucking. I learnt how to sit like I had been stuck. He used to do it with his ears forward and squealing in delight – I have got it on video somewhere. The best time was in the water complex at Merrist wood. Wet doesn’t come into it – I was on the verge of drowning….

It depends how he performs when he is not bucking. If all is great I would say learn to sit. If not I would say what is the point, are you really enjoying it?

Aforementioned pony used to jump till his hearts content, over anything (I used to win on him all the time) I have got a picture of him jumping the height of the sand school fence (over 5”, he was 14.1 ish) so the bucking was a small price to pay!

If your pony is roan and naughty it is my old pony and I will buy him back off you!

As i said she was pts through a strangulated hernia and just shocked at friends responce I know a lot of people agree with the view if its dangerous get it pts thats why i done the poll to see how many act have this view.

No as I said there was nothing at all phyiscal the mare done this on me for 18 months then after I took enough I give her a good smack something which I not done before or again and it never done it to kme again and we went on to have years of fun and good results at comps as I said it was all behavour with her
