How would you feel if someone was borrowing your riding hat without asking?

I think someone has worn mine... highviz band removed and dropped behind grooming box.. I've starting bringing it home, knowing my Monday sharer is known for borrowing.. not happy about it... not saying they have nits because they don't, but what if they had? And the thought of someone elses sweat on my hat.....

Yuk!

Also not very safe - they could drop it (or fall off) and cause unseen damage that you wouldn't know about - could make a bad accident even worse.

This, added to the fact it's blinking rude!!!!

If they carry on maybe you should get a 'new' one and put a jam tart upside down in the crown of it - or a stink bomb....the evidence will be clear :-DDD

Not happy, it wasn't cheap. In fact it was b***** expensive. I don't want someone else's sweaty head in my nice hat. I wouldn't want the thought that they could have dropped it and I would be unaware and could be wearing a internally damaged hat that wouldn't offer the needed protection should I fall...

I have two sharers and the YO's daughter who shares my back place as a place to keep her tack.. She has a few hats, and also a smaller head, so not her, second sharer has her own hat. Leaving first sharer, who apparently 'borrows' when she forgets her own.. She rode out with a friend on Monday..

I'd tell everyone I had a severe head lice infestation and do lots of scratching.

I'd hate anyone using my hat and would tel them in no uncertain terms if I caught them.

Mum just read this over my shoulder and came out with this :

When i was teaching the YO's daughter kept taking one ladies very flashy at the
time riding hat and wearing it in the school so came back sweaty and horrible.

The next time the owner of the hat put her bra, knickers and socks (clean) with the hat, note attached reading

" Here you go, this has the same hygiene as taking my hat, no need to thank me "

:D fantastic, hat was never taken again

What is going on.... ?

Do folk not buy anything anymore or do they just expect a free ride off everyone else ??

It's a case of if it's not locked up, it's available to just 'take'.. I now lock up my shaving fork and brush, even my waterbucket isn't safe.. My hat is under lock and key, but apparently that's not enough..

i'm fairly sure that after the first time they put their head in my hat they'd never repeat the action its that stinky and sweaty and its been that long since i wore it i'm pretty sure there is the next generation antibiotic growing in the lining in fact i wouldnt mind if someone did borrow it if they survived i might maybe wear it again! i could produce tee shirts "i wore the hat of death and survived" If and when i purchase another hat though i would be god almighty pissed if somebody"borrowed" it .

Why on earth would you want to borrow anyone else's hat mine is gross from me using it yuck would be cross as well as you wouldn't no if it had been dropped etc x

Mine lives in the car so comes back and forth to the yard with me. I really don't think anyone would want to borrow it, however!

There are 'yard hats' in the barn if anyone is desperate (they would have to be! Small creatures living in most of them!)

I have only loaned my hat briefly to my instructor during a lesson. If any one at the yard used my hat (or anything else) without permission i would be extremely p***d off.

Eww no, I went to put my hat on at an old yard when as I took it out of MY cupboard another livery said " ah sorry it may be a bit damp we went on a long hack and its so hot and sweaty"..... Wtf?!? I was a bit stunned and said "umm no worries" and put it on eerrrgghh too polite for my own good!
Got out onto our ride and mentioned it to my riding partner who said she figured I knew as this lady usually wore my hat as it fitted better than hers!
I went and bought a new one which lived in my car.... Gross

I suffer with nerves. The thought of someone falling off and damaging my hat would make me not jump in it so i'd have to buy a new one. If they'll borrow my hat they'll lie about coming off in it so i'd never know. I have an expensive hat and bp to help with the confidence issues so I don't share them. Ever.

Ppp describes it to non horsey folk as like borrowing your knickers. After you've worn them. And not washing before handing them back! Once had a workmate ask to borrow mine over a weekend for a lesson. Lovely girl but how was I to ride my 3 saturday sunday and monday morning and what if she came off? Plus I have a tiny head!
