This is from a previous horse, after we had been walking through some water (and splashed up round) all on his belly and flanks. He was in obvious pain and then these appeared a day or 2 later.

What would you do?

Horse recovered with no scarring but interested in how you would treat this? :)

It was definately from water, as we were paddling through a lake which I can only assume had run off from a recently fertilised field.

Truth be told, we still don't know what it was. It was a kind of allergic reaction or burn, but no one was completely sure!

Soften with warm water and hibiscrub, pick off scabs and then keep dry as possible. In other words I would have treated exactly the same as rain scauld...

That is bad reaction,

But yes I would agree with something in the water, I would of got vet to take samples, and go from there

You need to let environmental protection know asap, this in dangerous, if thats what its done to your horse, id also go over the legs with a fine tooth comb, to make sure hes not harbouring more sores.
Get your vet he might need steroids as thats one hellish rection

Im not one to call the vet out for teeny cuts and treat a lot myself but bloody hell I would be on the phone asap and forgett out of hours call out, they would be nocked out of bed if needs be and you said it was in pain.... If my horse is in lots of pain it gets sorted. How did you treat it?

Yup. Environmental agency for sure. Something is seriously wrong with the water to cause a major reaction like that.

Wash with Nizoral and avoid the same place when in the same condition. My friend has a horse that can't go to a particular place as if the sand flicks up on his belly he develops a similar rash.

Looks itchy!

We have something in the water at the moment , some kind of green algae and it's harmful to humans, dogs etc everyones been warned not to go in it.

I'd hose off with plain water as soon as possible. It looks like a chemical burn. I'd get the vet asap, if only to give painkillers, then I'd find out what on earth was in the water to cause that reaction, and make sure no one else could go in the water without warning.
Kx
