I was riding in the outdoor school on the track. Micah was working lovely THEN a dam pigeon flew off the fence right in front of his eyes, and as he flapped his wings one caught Micah on the ear

What did Micah do???? answers on a post card lol

Blink?
Fart?
Jump to the right/left?
Spin around?
Stop?
Shake his head?
Buck you off?
Kick out at said pigeon?

(I have a big postcard!)

Aren't pigeons helpful

The horse I'm with at the moment is pretty placid (sometimes too placid  ) I'm not sure what he'd do after being slapped on the earholes though! I wouldn't expect a rear out of him in any circumstance, I doubt he'd spook too much, maybe a spin or a bunny hop, nothing too difficult to sit to.

What did Micah say to the pigeon!? What gait were you in?

Denny is a good boy and would just stop and stand there, however he would then be scarred of every bird from then on. We once rode past a cat that jumped off a wall as we rode past and now 6months on he still thinks they are all killer TIGERS!!
Just to add a few years ago I was leading my 2 horses across their field and a car came crashing through the hedge and landed on its roof about 10 feet away... needless to say both horses legged it and sacrificed me to the hedge jumping monster.

So come on tell what happened??????

Sorry but that made me laugh (hedge jumping monster)

We were trotting

Well he ..................................carried on, flicked his ear, watched it fly away and just carried on trotting. I swear he is a saint :D But even I was amazed he didn't do something

Rhythm would have rolled his eyes and thought 'stupid bird!'

Snip would have collapsed in a quivering heap after teleporting in a 180 spin and bolted through the nearest solid object. He would then have taken 3 days to recover mentally and clocked up a big vets bill from running through the fence, got cellulitis in all four legs and need daily bandage changes and antibiotics.

Then he'd never go near the spot where it happened ever again, and he'd never go near any kind of bird ever again!

ROFL sorry that made me spit my pop all over the keyboard. Yeah Beacon would have been a similar reaction, possibly not the bandages tho :D

depends on the mood she's in...
if we're agreeing she should be schooling and that happened she'd be like 'tut stupid bird!! ' and then carry on.

if we'd been having arguments, or heaven forbid it was windy! she'd have gone 'eeeee yaaaaaaa!!!' spun and charged the other way doing farts and bucks and snorting. and then we'd have to work on going back to that part of the school for the next 30 mins and ended it on a 'good note' with her going past the bird spot sensibly :D

she's welsh y'see

BH would have done exactly what yours did OP. Or possibly not notice at all and just carry on like nothing had happened. Aren't we lucky to have such good boys? :)

We are incredibly lucky!!! To be honest I didn't know such horses really existed .
He never really spooks, the most he does is a slight side step or a little jump and that is extremely rare :D

I have known him get really really frightened once though when we were in the indoor and fireworks were going off right over the top of the school, OMG I have never seen a living thing be so afraid, poor thing was shaking so much I thought he would fall over

I was riding my rather sharp TB in the arena about a month ago and a pigeon flew full pelt into her face!! In that split second I thought I'd be on the floor, but nope we just carried on!!!

Snap! Fany would have looked at it, checked it wasn't edible and moved on. Captain would still be having palpitations now.

I was doing a novice dressage test outdoors in an arena with spaces between the boards. We were trotting down the long side & a large seagull landed on the track. I thought it would move, it didn't, so horse took it upon himself to make a detour - out through a space & back in at the next space & seagull still sat there on the track. The judge eliminated us for leaving the arena.

Mine gets dive bombed by birds every day. There's a nest in the eaves of her stable so she regularly gets pooed on too.

In the school, if it's windy and comes from the corner of doom, it will be the end of the world, all her fears would have come true, the horse eating monsters in the corner of doom really do exist!

That's so mean. I know it's the rules but surely extenuating circumstances were involved in this case. Stupid sea gull. They're horrible things.

The Brewster had a similar experience, my OH was riding him when two pheasants shot out from the long grass up around his head, closely followed by another one which was the final straw, The Brewster spun round, ditching my Oh
and stood still waiting for my OH to catch up, he's the only one to fall off and still hasn't lived it down, to add insult to injury, I missed the only person ever to fall off The Brewster.

We have nests in the roof of the school and earlier in the year a big fledgling fell right in front of us! Hugo just stepped over it (made me jump!) and carried on, but the poor thing was just hopping and flapping about with it's mother flying backwards and forwards, screeching!

Each time we went past I thought he would react, but didn't bat an eyelid. In the end a friend came in and got the baby - I was worried it would get trodden on as Hugo just carried on regardless!
