How young can filly’s go through their first season?

I could swear my new 8 month old filly that arrived today is showing very obvious signs, never know them to show this young though?!

Blimey. My other filly is 3 and has hardly shown any signs so it’s a bit of a shock.
All mares are different one of my brood mares is v obvious about her seasons(she will pee on any horse’s head she can) my competition mare I can never tell if she is in season or not … they are all different

Over thirty years ago, I had one 'filly' come to me at just under two the same day her four month foal had been weaned so that means she had been caught at under a year old; poor girl! Not my choice; the new owner was desperate to buy her before she went to Beeston the next day and rang me in tears begging for room; I wish she could have bought the foal as well to give them both a better chance. Doesn't bare thinking of it at Beeston on its own at that age.

My first two foals were a colt and a filly. I had to split them up well before they were a year old as she was coming in season and he was covering her. Surprised me but a useful lesson.

I know of a once well known, TB stud in Ireland that put a 10 month old filly out with an 8 month old colt. He covered her and she was in foal.
Just to be clear they didn't do that to get her in foal. She had the embryo washed out because she was far too young. They just didn't really think that either had the wherewithal at that young age. Just goes to show, never assume.
