Argh - apologies for the mistake in the title. It posted before I could correct it :(

Just wondering how you all think the big lad is looking?
I've had him almost a year now and I think there's a huge difference compared to how he looked when he first arrived. Admittedly, I've had a lot of help.

Here he is. He's a 7yo ISH (ID out of a Clover Hill mare), 17.2 (Scared to check again as he went bum-high again early this year) and weighed in at 690kg last week.

To me, he needs a bit more top line and his bum building up. We're working on getting him to carry himself and working long and low. He had a tendency to stick his ears up my nose and ignore my aids so we're getting there slowly. :p

Comments welcome. :)

He is looking much better but the thing that jumped out at me was the sweaty area behind the withers he seems to have a lot of sweat then a dry patch behind it, a sign the saddle is putting pressure where he is sweating and not touching where he is dry. This could cause problems with how he works and make him sore, I would get the saddle checked ASAP.

Thanks for the comments.

His saddle was checked in early April and given the ok.
However, I had noticed that he's unwilling to bend on one rein more than the other. I had his teeth re-checked on Friday (last done in March) and they were fine. I was going to get the physio out as well.
Think my next step will be to speak to Donald instead and get him out to check the fit again.

Better safe than sorry. :)

ETA: I was under the impression that he would fill out around his withers where the dry patches are as he builds more and more top line but I could be wrong. I shall give my saddler a call either way. :)

Sometimes they will fill out into the dry areas but if it is due to the saddle bridging, which it looks like in the photo, they usually tense against the areas under pressure and the hollowed areas stay as they are never really getting used properly, some extra padding may help to make contact in the dry areas and once they fill the saddle will probably fit evenly.
Physio is a good idea as they will be able to release any tension in the muscles and help him use himself more correctly.
