Condition?

He hasn't been ridden for a few weeks, I haven't had a chance

. Hopefully get him out this week though, They haven't been fed hay yet, get some at the end of the week, they are moving in to a nice grassy field in a couple of weeks. I took his rug off so he could have a good roll.
He's getting 1 scoop of hi fi, 1/2 scoop barley, 1 scoop cool mix a day (round scoop)

He is looking well for the time of year. He looks similar in condition to my welsh cob, George, who gets 2 handfulls of hifi original, 1 cup of BOSS and a cup of F4F each day, plus ad lib soaked hay and poor grazing (during the day only). George gets ridden for hours on both weekend days (occasionally hunted as well, and lunged sometimes during the week) and is clipped, in a MW rug. Shows it's horses for courses!

I hadn't taken his rug off for a couple of weeks, I was a bit worried on what I would find as Im not feeding him haylege yet, and theres bugger all grass (even though they are always picking).
But I was quite relieved!
I dont want him to drop now though,

I wouldn't want him to be any bigger S......

my coloured looks like him...i had to buy another Stubben girth week before last for the fat git.....

i'd drop the barley down 1/4 scoop for 4 weeks then assess

He looks a tad on the 'well' side to me (even for this time of year), especially if he is soon to move to better grazing.

I thought this too

he certainly is going into the winter with a good covering, I wouldn't want him to put any more weight on though

He looks in good condition for going into winter. Personally I wouldn't be feeding barley to a horse of that weight and breed type, he might need it in Jan/Feb but he doesn't right now.

having sold a pony to sophie doesn't make her my "best frend"...get a life eh???

but, reading between the lines here, the pony was expected to be a little porkie......

if a pony is turned out..as a few of mine ae, with rugs, they are, shock horror, checked as and when......

something that doesn't bother me TBH...

i have a least 3 rugged ATM that havent been even looked at since last friday...am i bothered????

am i buffalo

FFS what are you on tonite?? I just meant you would have met her, where as I haven't. BTW where exactly did I put you were bessie friends?? If I was a dealer with a field full of horses/ponies, I doubt I would either, but as I only have my own to look after, I would be ashamed of myself if I did that.

Anyway, he looks lovely Sophie! If he's anything like George then he's put his own layer of fat down ready for winter, regardless of what you feed! As you can see, G gets next to nowt, is on poor grazing and has good amount of exercise. He is still looking well going into winter!

As JM07 said, I'd drop the barley down a bit, if only for now.

Thanks for the replies, I'll cut out the barley

They are checked and fed every day but I dont always get time to take rugs off, I dont drive so OH pops up there for me now and again when its pouring with rain, so I dont have to drag my daughter out.
A daily routine is go up, give them a kiss and a cuddle, get feed buckets, go in shed, do food, go and get water from hose put food out and go home, especially when its pitch lac and no electric!
Im not ashamed CS!

He's well loved and looked after!
