This is Solly the 14.2h that I ride. I'm only able to ride her once a week.
We're trying to get her jumping well again. With the previous owners we think she lost her confidence and would go pretty fast at the jumps and then would stop. So I have been taking her calmly over trotting poles and trying small jumps.

Just wondering what you guys think and is there anything else that we can do with her?

thanks

Far from porky, looks good and lacking a bit of muscle tone, though I don't think that's what you were asking!!

She looks like she is doing well and you're doing a good job. Perhaps you could spend some time doing some further pole work just on the ground, canter poles, then related distance poles, then a 'course' with poles rather than jumps to help her get her confidence in canter.

Could also progress the canter poles into grid work to help her to cope with getting back to taking the jumps at a canter with lots of support and guidance. Keep the jumps small and introduce slowly and not too much at a time.

Hope this helps.

p.s. I love duns - she looks gorgeous. Duns are the best (i'm not at all biased ;) )

Ye she is a lovely horse..I can't remember what breed she is..But I will find out! I know she has a native breed in her, but thats not really much help I'm afraid!
The owner said the other day that when she bought her she was told that she would let 5 people be around her wouldn't bat an eye lid and she would be quite content with all of them grooming her! :)

I would probs agree she isn't really porky she is just not toned! She really only gets ridden twice a week, by me and another lady. She will get more rides during the week when her grandchildren are over for the holidays, but this is generally only for a week at a time.

Ye I think more poles could be good for her, as when she gets going ie she wants to jump she tries to jump the trotting poles! Interesting when its not expected! She tries very hard though!

How long would you guys recommend that I should ride for..Like 1 hour a time half hour etc.
Thanks x

I'd be inclined to agree with the first posted and say she does look like she's carrying a bit too much round her belly, especially as nice grass is now coming through... She's very pretty though, just needs more work- great for you :D

I would hedge my bets on there being connemara in there somewhere!
I don't think she's carrying too much weight at all - she isn't 'working' I guess so that may be why she is giving the impression of looking tubby but I think with a bit more work and some muscling up she'd be fine at the weight she is.

Ye I think you guys are right that she does have some Connermara in her!

Ye she does need conditioning! She loves her grass a little too much!

I've just gotta keep her calm when she's going over the poles as she thinks that they are a jump and tries to jump even the poles which are raised, when I've done it before! This is mainly in trot, haven't tried recently with canter poles so that could prove interesting!
