Hoys hunter classes

Utterly ridiculous!! The only county show I can get to, so I enter on a day ticket, I can no longer do because bsha won't let you enter qualifying classes without full membership which would mean forking out at least £100 just for 1 show. I liked the idea of everyone wearing a safety hat, not only for the safety aspect but because I wouldn't stick out like a sore thumb devoid of a patey!

until someone falls of and has a serious head injury and then it will be why didn't they do more for safety. brain injury or dead not very fashionable either but what do I know

And HOYS response is that there is now choice so that makes it ok!
Sod the double memberships, sod the safety, really feel for gb sports horse who were trying to do the right thing by bringing the showing world inline with all other equestrian disciplines!

I find it utterly surprising, I am all for freedom of choice and it's up to people if what they do with their own heads, but to go to such a degree to switch associations is a bit extreme! Especially if people could qualify with a harnessed hat but wear a traditional at HOYS. What a backward step. I keep thinking of Simon Chalesworth's unfortunate tumble last year, he cut his head, could have been so much worse and was not the horses fault! (that was a hack but it's all the same isn't it?!)

I've not commented on any of the threads/posts regarding the new hat rule so far, as quite frankly I have no time for people who arguing vanity over safety, but now I truly am gobsmacked. I think it further compounds the way that the inner circle of the showing world works. I'm glad that i'm not a part of it.

The hat rules doesn't put me off as I would wear a harnessed hat regardless but the BSHA costs FAR too much too much to become a member of! £50 for the human and then a further £50 to register your horse - per horse! To enable you to do RIHS & HOYS classes. We don't have enough of those classes in Scotland for me to justify forking out over £100 just on membership! I then think you have to buy a HOYS ticket to allow you to even enter the classes for £15. Total rip off.

Unbelievable! Saw it earlier on FB and thought it was a joke! One society tries to be responsible so HOYS changes to another just because people moaned :( glad I don't bother with showing anymore, this speaks volumes about it!

having read it, perhaps the owners of the NEC birmingham should specify that all riders wear harnessed hats - this rule would take precedence!!

now I would laugh if they did that! what a ridiculous thing for HOYS to do. I do hope that either the classes are reduced in numbers or that people wear their harnessed hats out of principle.
