My partner and I were watching HOYS last night on Sky Sports 4 I think it was and watched some lady rider on a dark bay come to grief at a fence and fall off. She crashed into the wing with her the back of her head (luckily she was okay) but her chin strap was so loose that the hat came right over the top of her head so it was perched on the back of her head. She quickly pushed it back down over her forehead. I would be surprised if she wasn't reprimanded by the BS officials for that. Plain stupidity having a hat too loose on your head. I know of a fellow livery who died from a borrowed hat that didn't fit correctly. When will these show jumpers ditch the 'look good attitude' and adopt an air of common sense?????:(

Yes I saw that and was a bit shocked by the way the hat moved - didn't offer much protection. Wasn't Ellen great though!

This is my OH's pet hate too. He is a doctor and has seen some horrendous accidents, both equestrian and motorcycle, where helmets have come off after being fastened too loose. He's always yanking mine tighter before I get on my horse and nearly throttling me!
But yes, I agree, especially for jumping.

Ellen Whittaker is brilliant. We saw her fab grey mare Ladina B jump at Solihull last Friday at their premier show jumping the puissance with Robert Whittaker aboard. It was very interesting but he was out after the third round. Mad horse, needs a long contact but very talented!

I did see that young woman - she was Ben Maher's pupil and her chin strap was very slack. It was very silly and she was lucky she landed on her bum to be frank. I also thought the hat could have throttled her if the fall had been different!!!!

I saw that & thought exactly the same!

Was also not impressed with the way Leon Thijssen pulled his horse (Tyson) about in the mouth following a less than sucessful round (12 faults)

Sorry I lied, it was Stephen Whittaker and not Robert! Whoops.
