Just a note to ask youall on how would you would feel
knowing that most of the qualifying tickets are going to
be won by the professionals, just so they add another string to their ever expanding bow, and line their pockets with
even more money?

even if on the day they should not have really have won
the ticket?
Also how would you feel if you where to find out that MrA
is not competing at the show this week as Mrs B has
entered hers, and she will give the judge at the next qualifying show the nod for mRA to win if Mr A
will exclude himself from this weeks show?

Is this a case of you scratch my back and i
will scratch yours........... or is it double standards
that we have to just accept?
 
I take it you're referring to the showing classes rather than the jumping ones

I know bob all about showing, not pretty in pink and too much room for disagreement- I dont like it when people disagree with me

But I do groom for people who show in the summer monthes, and the grey was stabled next to a cob that got its tail chopped off on the second night- now to me, that is knickers, a very good reason why I would never be into showing.
 
Oh yes just the hair, it was at GYS this year- bloody disgusting behavoir if you ask me. Its a two way thing because we kicked off at security when they wouldnt let up upto the horses late at night to give grey some more hay, but on the flip side they are trying to stop things like that happening, fortunately for us security let us past, unfortunately for our stable buds so was the vandals. Rob came up to see us the next day and laughed, says that is why he is into the showjumping, he wouldnt be riding a baldy cob, but to be honest can you see rob showing?

It was a rotten trick though, the coloured was a really nice sort, in my very unexperienced eyes it would have won.
 
I think in showing the higher up you go the more this happens.
Obviously, in the showing world, there are those that are well known, and they are well known because this is their life, they breed and produce stunning animals, and hence the judges recognise them. Then, if they win, it's seen as favouritism. It may be so, but it may be not.
Showing really is a very cliquey thing, very bitchy lol, and if you can't take it, just don't do it. Some days you'll win, some days not, but personally I think that when you don't win it just makes you strive to do better, which is part of the fun.
 
Which is why I think over 50% of the cobs last year were ridden and produced by amatuer riders? (I think it was more, but don't have a catalogue handy to check). Leave the "gossip" out and start with solid facts. If there is an issue, then report it to the society, don't whinge on a forum. Sheesh!

And this is not a showing forum, so you won't get much interest. All you will do is persuade even MORE people that showing is bent. Well, that's really going to improve things.
 
I dont know that much about showing but as far as I do know HOYS is a pretty big deal so why not go? Is it something you have always wanted to do??? If so go for it

since I was a kid I had wanted to ride at the RDS two years ago they introduced a class for Ridden Irish Draughts and although it took some persuading, I went

I dont regret a sceond of it!!! Believe me I didnt have a clue what I was doing but I got help and had a ball

I just enjoyed it for what it was... riding in the biggest Horse Show in Ireland

Professionals tend to do better because after all that is their job, however amateurs certainly win many many classes at all levels of showing (and it is a great feeling when you beat them believe me even if it is only once!

). A friend of mine has won the small hunters at HOYS and she is an amateur who works extemely hard to get where she does in the showing world. Having shown myself for several years I haven't seen any evidence of what you say.
 
Methinks this is just some sour grapes, note the abscense of a location on the posters details.
SHOWING IS SUBJECTIVE, you enter the class for somebody to judge you by their preferences.
I did a bit of BSPS as a kid (when it was fun) but now it is big business and the fact is the pro producers are expert at what they do and good luck to them, there are far easier ways to earn a living!
 
I always think that if you can hold your hand up and say you have done all that is possible to get your horse/rider into the ring as well prepared as possible, then, whoever they are up against, they stand a fair chance and also deserve a fair crack of the whip. It is no use whinging if the judge does not like your horse that day, you have paid for their opinion so have to take that chance. If by any chance, you do well, then look at it as a feather in your cap because you have taken on and passed many of the professionals which is always cause for celebration as they are so well prepared and hard to beat.

From showing Border Terriers I always felt that if I had taken on the pro's and won/placed. then it was my little dog that deserved the credit; it was placed on its merits not because I was known to the judge and I feel that is how anyone that enters showing classes should think; be pleased when you have a good day and if things didn't go to plan, just shrug and come back another day; don't hold grudges, after all, that is only your opinion, exactly why you entered under that judge in the first place wasn't it?!
 
Agree MH, I think that is all very true.
Showing was never my game because it was so subjective, that doesnt mean I dont enjoy the atmosphere, I love going to the bigger shows and there are a lot of down to earth normal people there.
I think you will find the eratics and the cheats in every sport going, the bitching isnt exclusive to just showing- wasnt there an incident at an international show where a horse's tail was cut in the showjumping ranks?
I have made some good friends showing, I find some of their ways odd, but in a delightful way, not a resentful one. I never knew that stuff that they put on their feet is so utterly hard to get off until I tipped it over my hands, but then again I didnt know how easily paint stripper got in off until my stable bud at the lincs show dowsed me in it, just out of the kindness of her heart. I will never like the showing world, im too much inlove with adrenalin, but that doesnt mean I dont like watching it. The first horse I ever did a dressage test on was a GYS WH Champion the woman who owned him knew jack shite about showing, the horse lived on carrots, she competed him and came home in the ribbons, so Im not sure its so restricted to the pros of this world- and if this is the case isnt it true for much other sport- I read on last year's write up that Burghley young horse class is dominated by some breeders that just live for that challenge..

if by some miracle i managed to qualify for HOYS i damn well would compete, just the acheviment of being there would be fine for me! as for "double standards" that's showing for you.

no one is saying they don't like new members, where did that come from????? there are two sides to every argument and just because not everyone agrees with your opinion you feel you have the right to "shout" at us, childish isn't it??

Your initial post had obviously been copied from somewhere else, which usually means that the poster is trying to cause trouble. Either that, or you have a very strange habit of pressing return instead of using the automatic line breaks.

There are ways of asking questions, and your aggressive stance from the outset did not bode well for a civilised discussion. It really sounded like you had already made your mind up (or had allowed someone else to make it up for you ...)
