Thinking of taking my daughter to HOYS this Oct as a birthday treat she will be 14 so out growen the birthday party thing!!

As we live in East Sussex we thought we would stay over for a couple of nights, get the train up etc

Can anyone surgest a hotel to stay in that is close to NEC and wont break the bank, also is it worth paying the extra for ringside seats or are the others ok

The hotel can be a travellodge style

We usually stay in the Premier Travel Inn which is about a mile from the NEC. Lovely clean hotel and I think from memory is one of the top hotels in Birmingham on Trip Advisor.

A lot of the competitors stay there too so your daughter will have to get her autograph book ready.

The other one we stay at was the one at coventry but obviously a lot further away.

You will be very lucky to get good ringside seats this late on for the main days but if you can get the central blocks a bit further back they're all pretty good viewing.

We go for a full day and I absolutely love it - may be 41 but the Pony Club final still gets me shouting and cheering like a kid

You will need to stay a few miles away from the NEC because most hotels around that vicinity are geared up for corporate visitors where the bills are paid by companies.

Ringside seats are fab but you'd be lucky to get them this late and the higher ones are still great, especially if you can get one of the central blocks.

In the past we've stayed at two different travel lodges nearby as well as hotels on site. The hotels are way better if you're prepared to pay a little more. Mainly because it is so convenient to get up in the morning and just walk across to the halls (they're much comfier too!

) We had one horrible year when an accident on the motorway meant it took us over an hour to get to the NEC despite staying only 15mins away!
