Hs1 headaches!

Iv had my hs1 for a few years now. I decided to get one as they're the safest (not sure if still are) on the market. However, the fitter said they'd be happier selling me the one I bought than going up a size and padding it out. She said it was a good fit despite me saying it felt tight. She said this was normal and it would give slightly. I rarely use it tbh as its quite uncomfortable after 20 mins of riding and prefer my old (15years old!!!!) champion skull. Although its bearable! Do you think I should perservere with it, as I'm not really sure how tight they should feel?! Or just buy another hat as maybe it doesn't suit my head shape? Do they really give?

Sorry pointless post really, just seems silly it sitting there, when a qualified fitter at a reputable shop (at burghley) says it ok! Maybe I'm just used to my old hat that's not really a good fit and unsafe!!
 
I have a HS1 and the first one i tried gave me a headache after 5 min.. I went up 1 size and that feels much better. Im no hat fitter but I know hats shouldnt hurt!
 
I had a similar problem but i would only get a headache after 40 mins ish sometimes longer. The more I wore it the better it got and now I don't get them at all or very very occasionally. I put it down to having a totally different hat to start with (an old harry hall) and didn't give me the same sort of protection so the hat was quite a lot tighter.

But as said above hats shouldnt hurt but its up to you!
 
I really want one of these hats, but they won't fit my head. My usual size feels far too tight and uncomfortable and even if I go ip a size it's still too tight at the front but too much room at the size. I just don't have the right shaped hard I guess!
I may go for a Charles Owen pro, as that fits fine.... And I can still get a silver hat!
 
I'm pleased I'm not the only one!! I wish I'd gone up a size now and got the padding! They wouldn't have refused me buying it but said the size that I actually bought was better for me and therefore safer! I may persevere and force myself to wear it and hope it will give a bit! If not, I will be on the lookout for recommendations! :) thanks for your replies :)
 
My daughter has a large head, and gets headaches when outgrowing hats (only 12!) Her head is a good shape for an HS1, and we've had this particular one for almost 18 months. However she was worried she was outgrowing it as she was starting to get headaches, so we went back to the shop, and the fitter checked it and said actually it was fine, a good fit BUT she needed to put it on at the front first (sort of lean her head into it), then lower the back, rather than plonk it centrally on the top, then push down. All to do with pulling her hair too tight, hence the headaches. Fitter showed how much bigger the next size was one, and that was clearly too big, so she needed to ensure she was putting her hat on properly.

She's been doing this for the past few weeks (rides pretty much every day)and her 'my hat is too tight' headache doesn't happen any more (quite pleased as they are not cheap!). So suggest you try this, and see how you get on, which could be why the hat fitter (who was I presume fitting it on) thought this size was the best fit for you.
 
I have a HS1 also, felt a little err cosy shall we put it to begin with, I can't remember any headaches specific to the hat, but then ever since an accident I get daily headaches anyway so possibly haven't associated the hat with them.

As the person above mentioned about putting it on the front and then sliding on the hat backwards - does work. You could also try loosening off the lace at the back which will give you a little more room to play with.
 
i had this problem - i had my heart set on one of these as well but had to take it back to the shop. No way Id go for a bigger size and pad it out im afraid, the shape of the hat should fit your head, not require padding out to be comfy. They are just the wrong shape for my head unfortunately, I have a champion ventair skull now and am very happy with it.
 
I bought mine about a year ago and the first three weeks weren't much fun. It felt too tight and gave me a headache every time I rode (at least 5 days out of 7). I was on the brink of taking it back when I put it on, rode, and it was fine. It's been fine ever since - the most comfortable helmet I've had and the first one that actually fits me properly. Maybe persevere? Try wearing it for short periods when you're not riding to loosen it up a bit? Dubsie also talks a lot of sense; the HS1s do seem to sit slightly differently and can pull your hair too tight. I still have to remember not to loop my scrunchie around too tightly if I'm going to be riding, as then the hat/hair combination does ache a bit!
 
After seeing the safety testing the Hs1 was put through I also wanted one but there was no way that it was ever going to fit me. My head and the hat are completely different shapes I'm afraid and I didn't want to end up padding it out as I felt that might compromise safety. Luckily, I was in a shop that had a huge selection so I just kept trying them on until I got one was perfect and came away with a trusty Champion that fits like it has been made to measure. I know the people in the shop and they were happy for me spend ages trying them on and wearing them for 20 minutes or so to see how they felt.
