Oh brackenhappy you are so sweet!
smile.gif

But you're out of luck on this one I'm afraid - the mare has just been sold - or at least the sale is going through at the moment.
frown.gif
I can let you know if it falls through for any reason, but the buyer is very keen and has been emailing me about the foal and everything...

The owner is a v nice woman and is miserable at having to sell, but her mother has become ill and will need virtually full-time care, so what with this and a business to run and a family to look after, she just felt she wouldn't be able to give mare and foal the attention they would need.
frown.gif

Sad for her, but as far as I can tell the new home is a very nice one, so at least she'll know they are in good hands.
smile.gif

The other breeders with Tobago-babies on the way are very reluctant to part with them - as I discovered recently when trying to persuade them to sell a foal in utero to a friend.

But people's circumstances change, so there may be one or two available next year...

How is the lovely Bracken? I think you said you're trying one more time with the stally she likes so much (although perhaps not enough actually to get in foal to him)? Hey - we've all met men like that - OK for a summer fling, but you wouldn't want to have their babies....

looks like bracken is gonna be turning up on your doorstep then if thats the only way to get one of your boys!!(your hubby wouldnt be able to turn her away if i dont put my address on her label!!!)
grin.gif
grin.gif
think them foalies will be well out of my price range tho
frown.gif
but you never know i might win the lottery!!
grin.gif
LOL at the summer fling!! yep one last go for her!! told them to AI her if need be!! infact do anything as last chance saloon for this year!!!! think dollar must be sick of seeing that mare when he goes in the barn
blush.gif
dont think she forgot the last foal hence no pregnancy as she was a delinquent!! lovely but a devil all the same!!!
blush.gif
grin.gif

Whoops - I've just realized that my last comment might have sounded like I was being rude about the stally you're using!
shocked.gif
It really wasn't meant to be - I'm sure his babies are very nice!

The 'Tobagolings' (as a friend of mine has been calling them) will probably vary in price depending on the quality of their dams - the best ones, from the top-class show-champion mums might be quite expensive, but others should be more affordable.
smile.gif

That's assuming anyone will sell, of course. I was very careful to make sure that breeders who used him were not 'breeding to sell', so most of them certainly intend and wish to keep their foals - but like Sahibaa's owner others may end up having to sell for whatever reason.
frown.gif

I must admit I'm becoming very fond of your Bracken, even without having met her - she sounds like such an amusing character!
wink.gif
Remind me - what is her breeding?

I do hope she gets in foal!
smile.gif

nope it didnt sound rude!!!
grin.gif
or at least i didnt read it as rude anyways!!
grin.gif
he has had some cute babies has dollar!! but its his temprement i fell in love with!!
grin.gif
LOL at the Tobagolings!! think after this year they deffo will be out of my price range however if you are willing to donate one to me i will take really good care of it!!!
tongue.gif
grin.gif
mmmmmm character yep thats her all right!! shame you are sooooo far away you could have come up for a nosey although you need plenty of treats with her, cupborad love all the way!!
blush.gif
grin.gif
shes TBx but i have no other info than that and that she was raced at some point and has been driven!!! put in my other post abit more about her wont bore you to tears with it here tho!!!
grin.gif
stupid thing kept crashing last night thats why i havent replied till now!!!!
grin.gif
just to let you know i'm breeding to keep the foal for myself so if your boy wants a randy mare for a bit to show him the ropes then can bet i would be keepin that foalie to!!!!
blush.gif
grin.gif
grin.gif

Awww! I wish I could give you a foalie - but none of them are mine!
frown.gif
Anyway, better wait and see if they are as good as expected - it's always a bit of a gamble with a first-season stally...

Wish I could come and see Bracken as well - with pockets full of treats, of course LOL.
wink.gif
Racing and driving?! She certainly sounds versatile!
smile.gif

Dollar has indeed had some nice babies
smile.gif
- interesting how much they vary; he must get quite a range of different types of mares.

Tobago only does AI, and is now mounting his dummy-mare Trinny (short for Trinidad, of course) without even the aid of an in-season jump-mare - bless his little cotton socks! I know it all sounds very pervy, but it means we can provide semen 'on tap' when breeders need it!
grin.gif

very versitle indeed!!!
grin.gif
would like to drive her again but she is deffo retired and i dont think 3 months at a stud would make her change her mind about work!!!!!
blush.gif
grin.gif
you have no need to worry about tobagos babys if they are even half a lovely as him then they will be wonderful
grin.gif
grin.gif
. LOL about the pervy thing tho!!
blush.gif
at least you can ensure 'prompt' arrival!
blush.gif
unlike men who insisit on going the pub before any 'performances'!!!!!!!!!!
shocked.gif
tongue.gif
grin.gif
yep the dollar babys do vary but the dark one to the chestnut mare i have seen in real life and it is sooooo cute and really friendly it was only 2 days old and it came straight over to us!!!
grin.gif
tis a shame tobago is AI only!!
blush.gif
bracken will be heartbroken when i break the news!!!!
wink.gif
grin.gif
are you ever going to let him natually cover or is he staying AI only?? just being nosey BTW!!!!!!
grin.gif
grin.gif

Sorry Bracken!

Well, I rather wanted to let him cover a few in hand (I always hesitate to use the term 'naturally', as there is nothing very natural about it lol!), but I've got Tullis from Twemlows and everyone else telling me he's far too valuable to risk getting injured - and I do see their point.

Not just because of his financial value, but his value to me personally - I have to put his safety and welfare first.

And I am also convinced that stallions mounting dummies do believe that they are covering a real mare - they wouldn't 'perform' if they didn't! So from the stally's point of view it really makes no difference - in which case I feel why not protect them from injury?

So yes, for the moment at least he is AI only - but that includes on-site AI, at the stud, using fresh semen. From the mare owner's perspective this is pretty close to 'natural' covering - except that the semen can be checked under a microscope before it goes into the mare, which is surely a bonus?
smile.gif

I suppose if there were a very quiet and cooperative mare that absolutely couldn't do AI for some reason, and really had to be covered in hand, then I would make an exception.

I do realise that AI is rather less fun for the mares - but then a lot of mares (quite rightly) are never bred at all, so this seems a relatively small price to pay for keeping my stally in one piece!
